The ones advertising are not slater and gordon.  Slater and gordon have closed their book on this.  Also S+G have aacording to reports on here charged people who have left their action before it went the distance.
So, Slater and Gordon are no win no fee. The rest is irrelevant to my query.
"the fees are capped at around than 30%"
So are they capped at or around and whats the than word?   Translated in google?

And that comment was in June 2018.

Again, not relevant to the no win no fee query.

Very relevant ... S+G have closed their books so nobody can now sign up with them. So whether or not they are NWNF is completely missing the point ... the OP cannot join their group action so any claims company the OP signs up with will a) not be running a live claim, and b) are highly likely to not be true NWNF, probably more a conditional fee arrangement where the claimant pays the solicitor either way - either from a share of any payout if they win, or directly or via an insurance policy if they lose.

I agree with everything you've put apart from the relevancy.  The op never actually asked about any of this. It was all assumption.  There are a few people on this board who like to get on their soapbox about the whole vw thing.

So the OP is only asking out of interest, not to actually make a claim...

Yeah, right.  Read the title of the thread.  He fully intends to make a claim so not irrelevant at all.

Still Assumption.  Nowhere does it say anyone intends to make a claim.
Another one with an axe to grind.

    A legal employee are we?

From the title I would say it is a safe assumption.

i know this is slightly off topic but can i ask the relevance of having to have purchased the vehicle before january 2016, i bought my car in may 2016 but i cannot see how that changes what was wrong with the car when i bought it

    Simple.

You bought it in full knowledge of the situation - since it had hit the media in autumn 2015, and by January 2016, VAG were already recalling cars.

If the used value of the car was affected by the situation, then you gained from that - not lost from it. No compo is due.
