Universal credit

we have lived in Spain for the last 21 years and returned March 14th to live and work in the UK.
Due to the pandemic we are unable to get work. We have had to rent at holiday cottage as could not get furniture for a house rental.
we have a daughter of 9.
The issue is we have savings of over 16000 as this was supposed to be for a deposit on a shared ownership property and deposit for a lease on a shop. All we are doing is living off this which was not the idea.
can we claim any credit with these circumstances other than child benefit which we will be doing soon.?

My understanding is that if you and your partner have over £16k savings between you then you would not be eligable for Universal Credit regardless of how you had planned to use the money in future. However there may be other benefits you are entitled to, for which I am not an expert, so suggest you post more details of your position on the Benefits & Tax Credits sub forum and try the Turn2Us Benefits Calculator.
