My first overpayment went out yesterday. My balance is now £62,429!
So I have 2 more payments to make this year before my overpayment allowance is recalculated and I'm feeling like I'd like to get it down to an even £60k 🤔3 -

@Felicityfandangle Those numbers look great! How did the interview go?Mortgage at 30: £204,750 (08/2020)
Current mortgage: £145,448 (11/2024)
Goal: £145,000 by 02/2025
End goal: Mortgage free asap!1 -
Hi @Friday1989 I think the interview was ok. I should find out by the end of next week. Please keep everything crossed for me. It's a bit more salary and a lot less stress. Thank you for asking 😊
On the numbers... they are quite a bit less intimidating than some on here I have so much respect for those of you starting out in the 100's. My house was only 70 to start with (in 2005) but I have a btl as well and when I remortgaged recently I borrowed enough to pay that one off so added about 24k to my outstanding balance. I don't honestly know if that was a good idea or not but the interest rate was only 1.78 fixed for 5 years by which time I hope to have it paid off (I'll be 60 at that point). I just like having everything in one place it feels like the final hurdle in one neat little package x

Hello ladies
This weekend was a busy weekend indeed. Saturday morning I did a lot of gardening, mowing the lawn and clearing some overgrowth. I did this for hours but still there is loads to do! I really can not keep up with the rate of growth. Anyone else feeling like gardening is like a full time job?Anyway Sunday(today) I went to B&Q to get some bits to fix an under stairs bathroom door. It was a slide door which was almost falling off and I now had to install it in a more standard way. Had to buy door hinges, chiselling set wood etc. Took some hours of carpentry(slow I know) and I must say I now have a secure working bathroom door! The weekend was a nightmare as we were down one bathroom because of this fallen door and I just couldn’t see how we can go back to managing with one bathroom indefinitely. Was tempted to call a handy many but decided to diy. Couldn’t be bothered to find a person to fix the door.I still have one more door to fix, my daughters wardrobe door. I should be able to fix it one of the evenings this week as I have bought some wood glue and wooden toothpicks to put back screws which were now loose.Very satisfying when I can fix something in the house. Always advisable to keep on top of maintenance.I wish you all a wonderful week.Initial mortgage bal £487.5k, current £258k, target £243,750(halfway!)

Well done on the door Sistergold. The architect said plans for my new downstairs bathroom / porch should be ready to submit to planning by the end of this week. I cant wait to have a second toilet in the house. Not sure I can afford for the actual work to be completed as yet, especially as i will need to pay for bedroom being split into 2 for the girls, but at least if i have planning permission its a good start. I then need to get more quotes.
The work on the bedrooms should be able to start by wed according to the building regulations man, but as the builder hasn't contacted me yet with a start date I am still unsure what's going on. He had hoped to fit my small job in between 2 big jobs so I guess if something has overrun I will need to wait. Need to clear the girls room and remove carpets (it is then going to be put back down in my room) before they can start, so hoping for a few days notice.Me, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

@slm6002, wow that’s great news with regards to plans almost going for planning permission. It’s good to have the p-permission in advance as at least you can establish what you will be allowed to do with your house. After approval the 3years before planning permission expires is enough time to decide to go forward or not. Also fingers crossed that the builder can split the girls bedrooms as it will be good for each of the girls to have their own rooms. You are really making good progress.Initial mortgage bal £487.5k, current £258k, target £243,750(halfway!)

I am very impressed with your door DIY, how great you have learnt all that and what a great example to us and your kids. I will definitely be doing some of the courses you recommend.DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.
