    Hello ladies
How have all been? Hope everything is going well? I hope you have been enjoying your gardens and some of the beautiful weather we have been blessed with? How is house hunting for those on the hunt?

Just a mortgage update. Mortgage payment went out on the 14th of September with OP of £50.

As you can see balance is gradually moving down. Just interesting to think that one day I would have paid off that balance of over £400k I just wonder where the money will come from but hey slowly does it?
    Xx

  • Oh I'm jealous of your interest rate! Definitely not your balance though!! I (somehow) had some money left over this month even after treating myself to a concert (including meals drinks and transport) and having meals out most weekend so that was a pleasant surprise.  I put £100 of it toward my mortgage.  I could have done more and I'm not saving for anything special but the scary thing with overpaying the mortgage is you can't get it back as easily as savings right?? I also treated myself to some pyjamas because it's been a while.

This month won't be so cheap.  Car needs MOT + Serviced and no way it passes.  I also need my hair cut (it's been way too long and so is my hair!).  I have a few things on my amazon wishlist I want too which I'm going to buy.  Things start getting expensive for me November - February so be as well treating myself whilst I can as I see it lol

  • @JennyJukes, yes the balance is a bit ugh sometimes but I hope it will make sense one day why I allowed myself into such a big debt?! The argument is it’s a roof over my head sometimes I feel it’s was just my moment of madness allowing myself to want to borrow that.
It’s good that you are spoiling yourself once in a while, good that you still had some money left over! Xx

  • I'm currently having a bit of a meltdown. I handed in my notice last month. I have a temporary job in the same trust that I'm meant to be starting next month (immediately after leaving my current job) but NHS professionals are taking their time setting me up on the bank and I'm worried my DBS won't be back in time (I have one but it's only adults not child and adult workforce). Financially I can manage a few weeks of no pay (and I need a break!), but I'm worried they'll get someone else in if it's not back a week after I'm meant to start. If that happened I'd get an agency job once the DBS came back which would pay far more but the temporary job is better for my career progression. I really wish they would speed things up!

Leaving my job with no job to go to was risky. I hope it doesn't backfire!
    Mortgage at 30: £204,750  (08/2020)
    Current mortgage: £145,448 (11/2024)
    Goal: £145,000 by 02/2025
    End goal: Mortgage free asap!
  • I feel you there @Friday1989 I left a job for another one and had a starting date but I hadn't heard anything from them the week before so I called up just for them to tell me my reference hadn't came through so they couldn't let me start!  Luckily I was with a partner at the time but he was on a low income so it wasn't ideal.  My referee kept saying they hadn't got an email through.  Eventually about 10 days after I was supposed to start, I told the new job I had quit my job for them and would have to look elsewhere as I need an income ASAP.  Somehow they were able to get me to start the next monday without the reference... that was stressful!  I wish jobs would let you put your notice in once they already had your references and checks done and could confirm your start.

I'm still working from home right now but we're talking about going back to offices.  I chose 50/50 home and office working.  Office working is a necessity for me for my mental well being just so I'm not isolated but the office they want me at is a 50 mile each way.  With a 12 year old car (not to mention this kerfuffle with fuel!!) this isn't going to be doable.  And I cannot drive in the dark due to cataracts in my eye so this isn't going to be an option for winter.  I was due to get it removed last year but due to COVID it will be this time next year if I'm lucky.  There is another office in the city that would be ideal for me to get the bus to 2 times per week but I will be there without any of my colleagues which will feel too awkward.  So I'm not sure what to do.... one off big expense buying a new car to get into work 2x a week to reduce isolation, or keep a cheap run around car for groceries/appointments and get public transport to an office where I'll feel isolated.  I'm hoping I can perhaps work mostly home working and travel into one office by public transport once per week.  I don't know.  I'm hoping they will be flexible so I can test what works best.

Question for you ladies that bought your own home, especially a first home, is it natural to start noticing all the cracks in the ceiling and thinking every little noise is your house about to give way... ?  :)

@JennyJukes Do you think you might get to know people at the closer office? I think everyone is a bit human deprived so a little friendlier than in the past. You could also look into access to work to get you to your usual office as cataracts may be a disability under the Equality Act 2010 so taxis at night would be a reasonable adjustment and you'd need one in the morning because you couldn't get it back home to drive in the morning if you drove into work.

I do sometimes worry the whole house is going to fall down and it's quite wonky (!) but I figure it's been standing 120+ years and has two others holding it up 😂

I usually don't hand in my notice until all my pre-employment checks are back but this job is destroying my mental health (not helped by the fact I can't talk about it in detail because of confidentiality).
