Dear @slm6002 - street lights and electric/telephone boxes can just be placed at such a bad spot at the front. Its good though that you are making changes as for sure if you could by any chance level part of the front and make it possible to park buyers would surely view that favourably. Some buyers don’t want to look at potential but want it to all be done for them before hand. Parking at the front I think always seems a better option than the back? In this case you are now going to stay for a while so if you can enjoy the upgrade and then sell later also making it easier to sell then that sounds like a win win to instal a toilet.

    Hello ladies
It’s that time of the month again to sit down and sort finances out. Managed to transfer £2026 into the building fund, balance now @£35534-. Funds seem to be a little tight this month but will see how I get on. I am trying not to spend unnecessarily. Did order take away for the children last weekend. Did make sure it was just the main meal and no drinks, and no desert with the order! That helped to make the spend for take away a bit lower at just over £40 for roosters. I then went to Sainsbury’s and bought a tub of vanilla ice cream, pancakes, strawberries, raspberries and chocolate spread and that’s what we had for desert. I must say I did enjoy the pancakes and it did Not cost too much.
With children it’s easy to overspend but I accept I can not avoid it altogether. We also went for a walk and they asked for bubble tea, that was another ~£10 spent 🤨 well life I guess?

Mr Ex is still not working apparently, but annoying thing is I can not know for sure if he is truly not working? So I am not getting child maintanance still! 🤨 This is really affecting my finances but hey what can I do I will not let it get me down.
I hope you are all okay?

Hi 🙋🏾‍♀️ SG, I’ve been a bit AWOL. I’ve been trying to manage teaching a practical lessons from home. Sorting out my remortgage and hit the 75% LTV. Then plumbing issues which have been luckily sorted out by the lodger 😅. Then the ex boyfriend has finally taken his stuff. Great to hear of your plans, and saving. Also good to catch up on the different plans of all the SLMMers.

Hello @Sandyra - wow plumbing has been sorted out by the lodger!? You are so lucky! Is it a male lodger? I envy you to be honest for getting a good hands on lodger! Last time you mentioned he cleaned the oven! When I have been toying with the idea of a lodger I have been convinced it has to be a female lodger! Is that even allowed or will that be considered discriminatory? 🧐

    Thoughts for today
    The question of a lodger
Ladies if you ever decided to take on a lodger would you want a
    1. Female,
    2. Male or
    3. Either will do no preference?

Also can you give reasons for your choice

For me all along I would have said 1. Female because
    a. I have children and I feel it will be safer for them with a female than a male,
    b. I think a female will be more inclined to be tidying after themselves
    c. It will be easier for me to interact with another female?

Now ofcause all the above arguments have now been blown by @Sandyra’s posts who has a lodger who I think is male, cleans the oven and fixed plumbing! So now I am wondering if I should infact be more open minded?

What do you think ladies. This is all hypothetical ofcause! So far I am not yet at the point of trying to get a lodger.

  • For me it is more important that I get on with someone and that I feel I could trust them to be in my home, regardless of whether they are male, female or non-binary so I would go for option 3.

Good points and good for you for being open minded! For me at this point if they were not female they would not have made it to even an initial discussion. I even had an age range where they have to be over Xyrs aswell as being female! 🤫

Hi SG, well I've had 3 males (1 being my brother unfortunately :D ) and 1 female lodger and to be honest there isn't much difference, like @Moneyminded said, its who you get on with it. My current lodger is a male SG, in fact a divorcee, with 2 children, keyworker like myself (not something I had stipulated but under current circumstances has been beneficial).
I once had a prospective lodger who was 7 months pregnant...strange, safe to say I didn't think it was best she moved in :# .

I don't think I would feel safe with anyone in my home, unless they were already a good friend of mine.  I need my space.

@Sandyra I would also not want a pregnant woman! I would not want someone with a child either except I did it for compassionate reasons! Like me as a single mom helping out a stranded single lady????? It’s not a decision I will take lightly though!
With children still living with me I also feel “unsafe” getting a lodger but I have thought about it and  came to list what would be an ideal lodger if I should have to get a lodger for instance if I really needed the money. That is why I then concluded that it will need to be female as I just felt I will feel safer with a female especially with the children still in the house. Thank God for now I have not needed to get a lodger which I am happy about as this September my last child will be going to secondary school. I will post pone it as long as I can but if from next year I should be in financial need I will be in a better position to get a lodger as children are older now. Thank God for now my job has been secure with now foreseeable changes.
