Thank you @Sistergold it is a good feeling to have my own place and I'm learning a lot about myself (the deeper stuff) too. @LadyWithAPlan I think you are spot on about the Karndea* I had it in my last house and I have to say it was amazing for the dog. I guess I have always had this fantasy about Oak flooring because I just love the look of wood but I know I am going to faint when the quote comes through. I had a Joiner out to measure up and quote (still waiting for the quote) but in the meantime he charged me £100 just to replace a bit of skirting board in my tiny bathroom, I realised then that Oak flooring and the laying of it would just be too crazy on price.1

September was a really bad spending month. I had a big BBQ and there were birthdays and leaving drinks, but I spent more than I had coming in for the first time in forever. I say that, but I didn't spend more than I had coming in when I take away the overpayment which is about £350/month. Nevertheless, I need to put my sensible head back on.Mortgage at 30: £204,750 (08/2020)
Current mortgage: £145,448 (11/2024)

@Friday1989 I'm having a bad month this month for spending. It's my birthday on Sunday so somehow I seem to think that I should be buying myself lots of presents
One thing I have noticed is I have more anxiety around money now that I am living alone. My partner and I always used to split everything down the middle anyway (which I struggled with as he earned more than me). Now I am on my own I do fret seeing my savings go down as I start updating the house.

@badmemory yes, I agree, I just need to get used to it. I went for an interview today for part-time work, I'm looking for just two days a week (they want full time but said they will consider). It would boost my self-employed income and give me a bit of peace of mind over the winter when my work, which is in the wedding industry, eases off. First time I have had an interview in 22 years! I actually kind of enjoyed it. I was very honest and because it isn't the end of the world if I don't get it I felt I could relax a bit.0

Interviews are also good practice for one you may really want.

My August was expensive - girls holiday away and drinks needed after being dumped by text (still angry about that!) and I carried on spending in Sept .. but i am back to watching my budget .. luckily i have some work travel so my travel bug is being paid by others - one European trip and maybe a US trip next month ..
Good luck with the job FANTASYDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... Oh thank you @LadyWithAPlan for checking in. Yes I have been terrible past few months and not logged in with the mortgage updates. Have been sidetracked mentally and financially as my elderly mom(94yrs) had a medical situation. She was having such lower limb pain( from knee down) which turned out to be peripheral vascular disease. As she had had this pain for sometime refusing to see a doctor when it finally got so bad and she went to the doctor there was now a possibility that her legs will need to be amputated! The legs were painful, cold and changed colour(gangrene?). She was straight away put onto antibiotics and blood thinners and if this did not work then it will be amputation. It was harrowing waiting to see if this would help as any surgical procedure for a 94yr old is dangerous. Thank goodness the antibiotics worked. Also the blood thinners worked and so pain went away and no need for any procedures for now. Now we are all praying that she can keep her legs until her time to go comes.Other than that stress everyone has all been okay. I should also now be back on track.Hope you have been okay @LadyWithAPlan, others?Initial mortgage bal £487.5k, current £258k, target £243,750(halfway!)
