@Bibou22, yes electric will definitely need me to not leave topping up till the last minute. Also can not be doing it on the way to work unless have time to do it. After a year of plug in I should get into the swing of it. I will try to be using only electric on the car so that I get a full hang of it and then just use the petrol when absolutely necessary. Hopefully I will not need to use the petrol option so I can gain confidence with going fully electric.
That sounds like a sensible plan. Do you know how much range the electric will give you?

Not much range, I think under 40miles?  Enough  for work I think but not for anything else. Will need to check on that. Did not focus on the facts as it was hybrid.

I am hoping to one day get an electric car so it is good to hear about your experiences.  I am also due to get my solar panels installed this year (providing all is ok with the roof survey).  I am hoping I could power the car for free with the solar panels - but not sure if it is that simple
Its good to hear real life experience for sure. If I had I might have plucked the courage to go fully electric. The hybrid will give me a chance I hope to know where to charge, also it will give me time to have charging station installed.

RE home chargers, the government grant ends in March so worth installing sooner rather than later if you're definitely going electric @slm6002

I looked into grants as received an advert and they needed car reg for me to qualify for the grant? I am only getting the car end of May due to ridiculous manufacturing delays. Seemed like as don’t have car yet I won’t qualify? 🤔

You can definitely get one if your car is on order, I did. Although in your position I think it wouldn't be worth it. If you're only adding 40 miles I'd use a public charger or the granny charger (check and see if this is provided with your vehicle).

I think I added a “mains charger” as an optional extra. So I will use that and check if there are any grants in 2023? So will use the “granny charger” and public charger initially? I think £300 was the extra for the plug in charger.

@Sistergold Have a check what it comes with, mine came with two a granny charger, which has a three pin plug offering around 3.3kw, this does a slow charge overnight.

The second charger is a type 2 (I also have a tethered one of these on my home charger) which I use when out and about to plug in to the destination chargers I mentioned earlier. Any rapid chargers offering around 50kw have a lead already tethered to them so you just plug in and go, but I can't see that using these would be worthwhile for a PHEV.

Solar charging sounds like a brilliant idea @slm6002, win win! Hope the survey goes well.
