PSP or Nintendo DS for a 6 year old

Thanks for all the advice. Most of you are confirming my own thoughts about the suitability of the DS. Without being nasty to any of the well intentioned, I beleive that most parents are capable of making a judgement about a suitable age for themselves. Lets not get carried away with the nanny state mentality otherwise the sky may fall in.
Of course
I hope you and your family have a very happy Christmas.

Not sure why it is too young, as long as it is an activity amongst others...involves concentration and hand eye coordination so good for those skills...better than just staring at the TV

Not good for the tendons in the wrist though.
Have you never heard of 'gamers' thumb?'
I'd have thought chucking a ball against a wall would be a healthier activity.0 -

Goodness. It's a wonder anyone ever managed to entertain themselves! Never heard of books?Coveredinbees!!!! wrote: »oh yea hopefully I have a Wii in the post for xmas
My brother started off with SEGAs in the early 90s. He spent hours on his own in his room just playing. Went to uni and did the same. Now he has every console you've ever heard of (including a wii). Oh, and no personality. He can't deal with people, and gets bored very easily. It's a very sad existence.0 -

I wish all the sandal wear, lentil eating, moral high ground zealots would take take a hike. It's the 21st century and these things have been invented and can't be un-invented. The OP wanted opinions on consoles not moralizing.
I've had in my life an Intellivision, a Spectrum, an Atari ST, several PC's, a playstation, an XBOX, and an Xbox 360 it never did me any harm. My niece is in 6th form studying for 4 A levels and has an excellent social life, so don't tar everyone with the same brush.
Maybe you need to get off your computers and interact with some real people?????Nothing to see here, move along.0 -
Yay for common sense! We're getting a PSP for my 9 yr old son and DS Lite for 7yr old daughter. The only thing that is an absolute must for both is to have a parent nearby to make sure they're turned off when asked.Coveredinbees!!!! wrote: »I wish all the sandal wear, lentil eating, moral high ground zealots would take take a hike.
