How about a Teddy for a six year old?
Be careful what you call it.

Neither in our house, we consider it too young

Yet another vote for the DS. My children are 5 and 8 and both love their DS Lites. The games on the PSP tend to be ports of PS2 games, the games on the DS are more orginal, more fun generally and better suited to children.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

i like some others would consider 6 years old to be too young for a handheld console of that caliber.

but if you insist on giving them one i suggest the DS as its much more robust than a psp.

Don't ask the kids whatever you do!!!
  • My DD got a DS last Christmas and she is 7 now. She plays it regularly (although not all day) as she loves swimming and craft things too. Hers is the chunky version not lite. Definately need an R4 though ;)

Not sure why it is too young, as long as it is an activity amongst others...involves concentration and hand eye coordination so good for those skills...better than just staring at the TV ;)

Thanks for all the advice. Most of you are confirming my own thoughts about the suitability of the DS. Without being nasty to any of the well intentioned, I beleive that most parents are capable of making a judgement about a suitable age for themselves. Lets not get carried away with the nanny state mentality otherwise the sky may fall in.
