Frankly I think the games for the PSP would be a little too graphic for a 6 yo, and for that reason alone, I would suggest the DS0

We had this dilemma last year and we got the DS. Best choice i think he has not put it down, he has a lot of varied games. My niece had the PSP and hardly plays it.
You can get a lot of the games on special offer too.0 -
The Ds is great. I went on holiday with my 5 year old who was sitting next to my mates 13 year old. The elder kid insisted the PSP was the better machine (and for games like Pro EVo 6 the graphics are better), but after a while the 13 year old soon realised that games like Mario Kart on the DS are just more playable than Need For Speed on the PSP.
You will be making a mistake IMHO to get a 6 year old a PSP. They are nowhere near enough robust. Also keep that receipt on the DS because even a careful 6 year old may well break the hinge of the DS. It is a known fault and Nintendo will replace the casing free of charge with that receipt.
If you are that way inclined google R4 for the DS to see further possibilities with this machine.
DS all the way. The games for a 6 old are numerous.
Here are just a few.
Mario Kart
Bomberman Land Touch
New Super Mario Brothers
Animal Crossing
Crash Of The Titans
Mysims
Mario V's Donkey Kong 2 - March Of The Minis
Mario & Luigi - Partners In Time
Whilst it is possible to buy rubbish games for the DS, it is much more likely that you will do so for the PSP0 -
It's got to be the DS. My 6 year old absolutely loves hers. the games are more suited for her and brain training is fun for the adults.0

How about a vSmile handheld? That way she can play videogames and learn something at the same time/0

Have to say, as a household where the kids (9 and 6) have DS's and I've got a PSP, the DS is better for the kids due to:-
1. the games are better suited to the kids, get them pokemon (any version) and they'll be hooked for hours.
2. the PSP games are for older kids & adults in the main (GTA, Resi, Tekken, etc.)
3. the PSP menu system can be too complex for kids.
4. the battery lasts longer between charge on the DS, and doesn't cut off suddenly (lasts about another hour or so after the red warning light comes on).
5. DS easier to handle and play for smaller hands.
6. ..and it'll stop the kids wanting to play on YOUR PSP as much !!
HTH.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

The games on the DS are more geared up for younger children....it's not as complicated as the PSP!My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first being, hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.-Erma Bombeck-~ Member of the MSE Celebdaq Minileague ~0
