Morning all!
Day off work today which is nice so going to catch up around the house before the weekend.
- all food from stores: cream crackers for breakfast, last nights left overs for lunch and chilli for tea
- blitz house clean and tidy, it's not too bad so won't take long
- pop to pharmacy to pick up prescription and go to co-op to get some essentials we're missing
- I'm thinking of setting up a mini golf course around my house this afternoon for when DH finishes work, I miss mini golf places that you visit on holidays!
I've updated my SS and realised that this month I'd missed off the channel swim saving payment so we'll actually finish the month £125 od instead of £25. We're being really good with spending though so next months surplus will cover it. Annoyed I forgot it though!
We've done next weeks meal plan too and except for the few essentials I'm getting today (bread, milk, potatoes, etc) we've got enough food here to see us through.
Happy Friday everyone! My debt free diary

Afternoon! Got two letters from the bank today saying that because interest rates have decreased, first, I would now get just 0.01% interest on my savings (as if I had any!) and another letter saying that for the same reason my mortgage would decrease by ... not at all.
Thanks, bank! Please don't let interest rate changes affect the amount of money you make off those of us who can't change mortgages!! (Got ours at the peak, from a lender that no longer exists etc, and can't afford the fee to change to a new provider so we're still paying big interest rates). Thank god for that 0.01% you're letting me make on savings though! 🤣😂🤣
Rant over.
Felt crummy again today so have done basically nothing not even at work. I don't even feel guilty (OK a bit) but every time I'm in a meeting I feel awful. Panic attacks etc. Am ok diddling about in the house with no pressure. Must be stress.
Thansk for support about schoolwork everyone! DD is constantly busy and has actually done some Maths so she's not just on bl&*^*y tiktok. I got her a school fact book for her topic work and it arrived today and she's pleased with it so that's good too.
Main task today is making a big shopping list so we can isolate for 2-3 weeks from this weekend. So that DH can go and visit a very sick relative in hospice if at all possible, at the end of 3 weeks isolation. So zero leaving the house etc and enough milk and bread in the freezer for a long time. It's not a definite plan but I want him to do everything possible to minimise our exposure so that if he needs to he can go over there. It's difficult enough as it is without worrying that any visit could be lethal.
Meal planning galore tonight. Luckily (whisper it) I have come to love meal planning and the rest of the family are now getting the idea too: if it isn't on my list it won't be in the cupboard and therefore we won't be having it. When it's gone, it's gone.
Am looking forward to the weekend. No work. Will take dog for walks in rain avoiding everyone (saw nobody when it was pouring yesterday). Will avoid all pressure. Try to bring stress down. And try to do better re work next week. 😀 Feeling very lucky to have supportive employer who seems to get it - whole team are parents and have elderly parents themselves, so we are all in the same boat re worry, childcare etc. I will make it up to them with amazing work when things get busy again!
That's it for today. Hope everyone is OK. It helps to come on here and make plans however small.

Afternoon allFeeling a bit more positive today, so made some decent progress. So far I have:Walked dog at 5.30 amWashed hair with shampoo bar that seems to be lasting foreverHad rhubarb from the garden for breakfast fruitKitchen clean upFound an opened packet of cooking chocolate drops in the larder that had been there for a while, so made a batch of chocolate chip cookies (oops!!)I have checked the banks and updated my spreadsheetDone RM Correctly Delivered surveyFinished up various leftovers from fridge for lunch - OH had soup and toast, and I had the last slice of quiche and salad bitsTried to do a bit in the garden this afternoon, but kept having to rush back indoors due to heavy rain and hail. But I did manage to cut some salads (pea shoots, mustard and beetroot micro leaves, cress) and pulled a bunch of lovely little radishes, pulled out a large land cress plant which had been flowering, and had looked great, but it had gone over and was flopping all over the place. I always leave some in to go to seed, but there are smaller ones elsewhere that can fulfil that function, and planted out a few broad bean plants in gaps in the row, and a few salad plants in the space where the land cress had been. Also picked a bunch of soft herbs (mint, parsley, tarragon and oregano) to go with dinner tonight. I am going to make a Jamie O recipe for a veggie pasta thing, or at least a version of it - the original uses a bunch of mint but my mint is quite small still, so am supplementing it with other herbs. Also using a different pasta shape, which doesn't really make much difference!

Morning allMe againUp at 5am for dog walking as usual. Fed him, made coffee, then had an Iceland delivery arrive early at 7am (was scheduled for 8-10). The driver was most apologetic, but I thanked him, stressed that it was fine, and I had been up for a couple of hours and it made no difference to me. Only a few items missing this time, though I didn't even bother to look for flour etc. Shopping put away, washed hands (again) Other things:Home grown fruit with breakfastHad a bit of a larder sort out, more to be done there.Put some plants out for DS to collect when he does his errands later. Kale, cucumber, courgette, some French bean seeds that he asked for. Sadly he doesn't need tomato plants - I have a forest of them! Also wrapped and put out a bottle of wine for his GF's birthday which was the other day. And a set of posh barbeque tools that we don't use, but he might.Hoovering - hall done so far, struggling with motivation for this!Taken some items out of the freezer for lunches for the next few days, cooked meat and pate, that will go with the nice salad items I picked from the garden yesterdayHoping it warms up a bit later, as I have plants to move from the conservatory to the little greenhouseMust water seedlingsUpdate spreadsheet etcAnd do that hoovering!Dinner this evening will be frittata2

Good evening all,
I'm really struggling to get into a new routine and post here at the minute. The days just seem to disappear at the minute.
In the way of small things I've
* washed a load on the quick wash and line dried (all hung straight away, no ironing done since lockdown)
* lunch was a late cooked breakfast, would usually use a full pack of bacon but DH suggested freezing the rest for a butty later in the week.
* triaged the fridge, cut some pepper, cucumber and carrots that needed using so we had them with some chicken and a jacket spud for tea tonight.
* watched the Andrew Lloyd Webber birthday concert on Youtube with dh, was a lovely couple of hours. We've enjoyed watching the weekly broadcasts, we've seen Joseph, Jesus christ superstar, Phantom, Love never dies previously its been nice to watch something different.
* had our daily walk, unfortunately dh felt ill whilst we were out so we had to curtail it
* had a chat with my parents, we're both on talktalk for landline so end our calls on 59 minutes so that we don't get a charge
I think I'm going to have to make a quiche later in the week now with some of that bacon rather then butties, I've not made a quiche in years.
I'll try to get back posting regularly as I find this thread the best way to keep me on track!
Welcome to newbies and I hope the regulars who are missing are doing ok.
Take care one and all.Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

1LL this is the one I make and always turns out really well. I use bacon instead of the lardons sometimes. Freezes well (if it makes it 😜)
my list today:
HM pancakes for breakfast to make it feel like a weekend. We may have bacon with them now I’ve been talking about it!Roast later, will make YP if DH can get eggs at the farm today. Have everything else, there will left overs to be dealt with.Peg out washing done overnight
talk to DH about what order we are going to do a few jobs around the house in and how we are going to tackle them between us
Start a shopping list for Fridays delivery, hopefully it won’t be big one but don’t want to miss anything important off.Check junk mail as I didn’t get an email I was expecting. Continue to delete/unsubscribe from mail as I go. I’ve done several this week already. Definitely helps with a) not been tempted to shop and b) less clutter in the inbox
strain bone broth from SC.Sew/knit later.Have a good day all. Purps.4 -
Morning like @1LuckyLady I am struggling to get into a posting routine.
Somehow time is flying by, makes me wonder how we ever got anything done in the past.
Like many people, we try to do different things at the weekend, I'm going to suggest we have pancakes today, thanks @PurpleFairy26 for the idea.
I've planned a board game to play today, it's one we haven't played for about a year, so it will feel like have a new game (channelling my inner @foxgloves, shopping from home).
Today we are going to empty the fridge and base our meals on the contents, it's a good way to use up all those half portions.
After Friday's dinner, we had 2 tablespoons of steamed vegetables left so into the fridge they went, last night I added them to the jambalaya just long enough to heat through, resulting in tiny bit more vegetables for everyone and no food waste.
Today we need to encourage the children to do some badge work.
Ds has asked for help/advice on how to make effective revision notes. Not something I was ever instructed on, we were told to revise, not how. If anyone has any tips or websites that can help us, please let me know.
I would like us to finish the big tidy up in our bedroom, it looks like we are 90% there, as normal OH has lost interest, frustratingly I can't do it without him as most of the stuff left either needs to go in the loft or is his.

Morning everyone@Baileys_Babe I have done lots of exams myself over the years, and taught / tutored/ advised /supervised lots of students, albeit probably older than your DS. What I found helped best was to make notes on my original course notes to condense them down, then do so again on the condensed notes etc. Does that make sense? What you end up with is a sort of bite size version of what you started with. Just reading something, it is hard to make it go in (and if you are like me, you drift off daydreaming about something else), but if you actively do something with it, it is more likely to.Up early as usual for dog walk. Luckily it wasn't raining at 5.30 am, though it is now. Not done much else so far though. Cheapie porridge breakfast with a rather brown banana and a spoonful of yogurt, kitchen clean up, and unpacked some boxes that were delivered yesterday, dismantled the boxes and put them in the recycling, put the contents away and washed my hands (again!)Not much else planned for today. I will cook a roast later, as I found a half shoulder of lamb in the freezer. Might try and do a bit of gardening, though it is grey and dismal outside and to be honest there isn't that much to do in my little garden until the weather warms up enough to put some more things out. Nice to see the yellow climbing rose starting to bloom though3
