Hi, i booked a holiday trough a travel agent,ATOL protected, flew with Emirates to thailand, but half way through our holiday emirates cancelled our return flights, so i contacted the agent who booked me new flights with BA, But i had to pay for them & hotel for a couple more days, also taxis ect,
But my question is does atol refund you the additional costs ie flights ect, or do i have to claim from travel insurance?
i will add that i had no e-mails ect from either airline or travel agent, on the run up to this, it was on the news(covid-19)
The travel agent now tells me, is an insurance issue, the insurance tells me its atol protected,
Could anyone tell me where i stand?

ATOL protects you should a supplier go bust (Monarch, Thomas Cook etc)2 -
As Caz3121 mentions, actual ATOL cover is more about refunds if the supplier goes bust.
If you had an ATOL Protected package holiday (having an ATOL certificate is important rather than just seeing an ATOL logo on a travel providers website) - the provider would have certain responsibilities for your welfare and return to the UK. You don't mention who this is so I can't remark on their reputation on actions following the CV19 issues.
I feel for you now it would be a travel insurance matter providing you have suitable cover (check under Curtailment or Travel Disruption).
You may be due a partial refund on the unused Emirates flight but this would need to be administered via your agent and it is likely to be a long process.
