No they haven't-I have just been on the phone with them and the lady advised me to apply online for that tariff as it was the cheapest one they were offering.

It's a bit strange this one.

I applied to change to the Price Fix 2008 tariff through moneysupermarket.com on the 17th December. That traiff is no longer available from any of the switching sites but seems to be still available direclty from the company.

I liked ebico too but I am also a very high user(with 4 children and a partner who works shifts the heating is on all the time in winter, and hot water also gets used a lot), so I am going to switch to southern electric as their online tariff is cheaper.I don't like paying by DD but savings are always good.I presume quidco has some cashback for switching?

Don't know about cashback on this because I don't use Quidco. The fixed rate prices do seem quite good though, even more so now with increases on the horizon.
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time

Quidco does have cashback for some switching sites like Moneysupermarket - £20.

Moneysupermarket.com also offers £30 cashback but the Price Fix 2008 is no longer available through them.

I switched through Moneysupermarket and went via Quidco - not sure what I'll get.

Before everyone tries to jump on the switching bandwagon,go to SE site and get the actual tariffs for "price fix 2008".

There are no standing charges, but there are two different prices for using the first amount of units and then the remainder.

No disrespect, but most people have no idea how many units they use and can`t work out how many at one price and how many at another.

People use switching sites (who have a vested interest to get you to change) and put in their annual spend.
This is not the way to do it.
You have to get the actual tariffs and sit down with a calculator and work out your consumption for the last YEAR.
Then compare it to the tariff you are on at the moment to get a true figure.

Most people can`t,won`t bother and just believe any old tripe they are told by all and sundry instead of working it out for themselves.
I`m with Ebico and that`s where I`m staying.

Before you tar everyone with the same brush.... I have sat down and worked out exactly what my usage is and worked out that the "price fix till nov08" is cheaper than Ebico FOR ME...So please give some people credit!

Yes...There is two prices for price fix as you say....The "pricefix standard" is the dearer one when you only take out either gas or electric and the "price fix" is the cheaper one when you take out the both!

    I,m taking out the both.

    Spot on!!!

I agree with you 100%! Like alared has said it is very important to get your figures correct!

I too will be staying with Ebico and also you should note that Martin has put the traffic light system on red at the moment as it is not advisable to switch just now.

You obviously didn`t read my post correctly.

The two tariffs I was referring to are X amount for the first 1143 units and a second tariff for the remainder used units.
Also remember, that in the summer, you probably won`t use as many as 1143 units per QUARTER and so will never reach the lower of the two tariffs.
You may have sat down and done your sums but as I said before most people won`t
which is exactly what the power companies want.
If they didn`t want to bamboozle people why don`t they make their tariffs clear and transparent and why have so many.

With Ebico there`s only two prices (three if on Econ7)and you pay AFTERWARDS for what you`ve used.

Ebico still ahead by £13 a year, but surprised at Martin's advice.
With all these fixed prices until the end of 08 and cashbacks along the way.
I mean £42 (was £60) at both ends over a year from Quidco aint to be sneezed at.
  • Alared,

I,m not anti Ebico as you might be thinking i am as i have been with Ebico for the last 18 months but all i am doing is signing up to a plan that is cheaper for me and making sure that i,m not hit with massive rises in the very near future.

I think you and me know that Ebico cannot sustain their prices for very much longer in the light of recent events!
