Best sim-only deal for maximum data allowance when roaming (in EU)
I dont use much data on my mobile phone when in the UK (and barely make any calls or send any texts), but am keen to find a sim-only deal which allows one to use as much data as possible from ones contract, when roaming in Europe. (Also to include tethering). Even the unlimited data options have a cut off point for data use while roaming, which is disappointing. Anyone happen to have done the research on this recently? Fingers crossed!

AFAIK the roaming limits in Europe were dictated by the EU, so you might find all the UK networks have the same limit before they charge extra. The same limits apply to the length of time you can roam compared to the UK.
A more useful point to watch is whether the network will still include free European roaming after we leave the EU, especially as SIM only deals appear to be heading towards 2 year deals for the better value for money.
ps I am with Three and they now include tethering while roaming.1 -
All mobile companies have "fair usage " limits whilst in Europe.Ex forum ambassador

doh! I was hoping that not all had such limits. I spotted VOXI but havent read all its details yet .. but at first glance it appears it doesnt restrict ..0

I’ve unlimited data on 3, and despite working on the continent, and using the phone for streaming music and watching films I’ve never hit any usage limits.

Thanks John - I was looking at 3 but it caps at 20GB in EU, I believe. Which is indeed quite a lot, but sometimes I can be in Europe for a month or two and have no internet service (nor any TV), so was hoping to find a better option.0

So .. after a bit of searching around the comparable plans that were relevant to me were:
VOXI permits the whole allowance of a plan to be used when EU roaming. 45GB = £20 (1 month contract)
EE allow up to 50GB to be used when EU roaming. Currently 100GB = £20 (18 months contract)
Both have cashback options currently available in topcashback (VOXI £20 and EE £50).
So for me EE is the winner.
thank you to everyone who offered help and advice, it was very much appreciated.

I forgot to add that VOXI allows social networking aps without using up any allowance .. which is a bonus if a social networker0

or maybe buy a local data sim if it works out cheaper?1

Thanks Highland76. I did consider a local sim but unfortunately it didnt make a better option from what I could discover :-(0
