TUI trip to New York 6 April 2020

My wife and daughter were supposed to go to New York 6th-11th April 2020. The trip was cancelled mid March and my wife was told in the shop verbally. The insurance company say that unless I have official cancellation in writing they cannot do anything. I have also raised an application for refund with the credit card. I do understand that things are difficult but it has now been 4 weeks and not a single reply from TUI. I know people that are still due to travel and have been contacted to rearrange their holiday yet ours has gone and past and we haven't heard a thing.

I don't think what the insurance company told you is totally correct.
For example if TUI never sent any cancellation info, then how could you ever claim?
You could ask the insurance company how long are you expected to wait for the info, and what can you do it they refuse to send it
I have little doubt you will finally get one, but the insurance company should have explain further than the answer you got.
What you have done is I believe as much as you can do as you have put a credit card claim in.
New User name as MSE gave me a number in my old one.

There seems to be a general view that TUI, by far the largest travel business in Europe, is one of the least responsive. Staff working from home may well not have the ability to raise cancellation invoices from a centralised computer but they ought to be able to send an email. It sounds to me that it may be TUI you should be claiming a refund from in any event0
