OP also never confirmed that he was plugging everything in in the right order. 2 computer USBs first, then the drive USB. Seems keener to shop than to solve.

Tried that on 2 different machines, no go. Why should the order make any difference?

If you live in London, you can pick up a brand name drive for a tenner; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HP-External-USB-MultiBay-II-2-Optical-Media-Drive-Caddy-361297-001-PA509A-B13/123143996159
Otherwise Lite-On drives are around the £20 mark.
ASUS have a couple of choices; https://www.amazon.co.uk/ZenDrive-External-Ultra-Slim-Rewriter-M-Disc/dp/B01878ZQ8W
Should add, before you click on Order, that the first link leads to a caddy for an optical drive or storage drive. Slight oversight on my part.
So only useful if you have an old laptop with an optical drive, then you can likely pop it in.

If the drive needs 2x USBs of power. If you plug one in, then the drive, then the other USB, you'll underpower the drive, and it'll try to start. It might not start right, or it mught even cause a spike in demand on that single USB port and damage something.
