DVD Separate player for laptop
Comments

My HP external DVD works if you plug in one of the connectors, but not the other. I haven't tried plugging both in at the same time. I assume you've tried both of the USB plugs separately?

Does the cable look like this?
If so you need to plug both USB connectors into the laptop.0 -
No, the 2 cables are separate I've obviously tried both, one is power only.0

And the player can be heard spinning fine even with 1 cable.0

Just to make sure you're doing this right, you need to connect everything in the right order - connect both USBs to the laptop, THEN connect the single USB to the DVD drive. Don't know how much you think you were saving going to China, but there's an Asus one on Amazon for £27. I've got a Samsung one that has been great for years but I can't see it for sale any more, and it just uses 1 USB port.

Does the drive need to be connected to a powered USB port? (i.e. a port which provides more power than the USB standard dictates ... 5V, 500mA). Such ports typically have a Lightening or similar symbol next to them.1

Yes ive already posted i obviously tried using both ports together, still no go. And as for the "cheap one" I only need it to load old photos once, so what's the point of paying more than needed? Thanks anyway.
