Handing in my notice while furloughed

I’m currently furloughed and can’t get back to work full time at the moment as I haven’t got full time childcare . I have offered to temporarily do 2/3 days For them to start on 1st July (flexible furlough scheme) My employer has said no and the only hours I can do are my normal full time hours. Due to this they have now said my job isn’t safe and it’s all getting very heated over emails. Seems very unfair. However I don’t want my employer to ‘sack’ me. I’m wondering if it would be best to find alternative work that will accept part time hours for now and hand my notice in to my current employer. Would I still get paid for my notice period (1 month) ??0

How do you normally manage child care as well as full time job?0

If you hand your notice in then you are still entitled to you contractual notice period. Have you asked for unpaid leave? Use holidays etc. As I would think in the next few weeks unless we get a new surge in cases more restrictions will be lifted. So trying to push the return to work day could be better. They might not want to offer you flexible furlough as if they do everybody would want it.0

Hello,
I am in the holidays & Airlines industry and been furloughed since March. I have been offered a new job and can start asap but my only issue is when is the best time to hand in my notice. I am worried that if I hand in my notice now, my current employer might let me go straight away and I will only get pay whatever days (into July) so far and fear at the same time having missed out on the new employer payroll for July I will end up with not enough money to pay my bills etc.
Question: Is it possible that my current employer can
1. Let me go straight as soon as I hand in my notice and only pay me whatever days I have been with them so far so decide not to pay me the entire month of July?
2. Or will they decide to keep me for the 4 weeks notice still?
3. Or let me go straight away but still pay me the entire July
Thanks0 -
Your contract of employment should state what notice you have to give your employer when you wish to leave your job. Is that 4 weeks? Your employer may suggest that you can leave immediately, but you have given your notice, and have the right to be paid for that notice. Your employer can make you take accrued holiday in the notice period. You can actually give more notice than you need, and be paid for that notice. See https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/work/leaving-a-job/resigning/your-notice-period-when-resigning/
It is up to your employer whether they ask you to- leave immediately and pay you in lieu of notice, or
- work your notice, or
- remain on furlough during your notice
For rates of pay while on notice, see https://www.employmentcasesupdate.co.uk/site.aspx?i=ed40723 . Any holiday taken during notice should be paid at full wage in any event.1 -
hello,
i was told by my previous employers for the first month they would top up the 80% with the extra 20% so we had our full wage, this was said over the phone and my colleagues received 100% pay in April. I handed in my notice in April and they have only paid me the 80% furlough pay even though like I said for the first month all of my colleagues got 100%. Can a company pay only 80% when someone is working their notice period or do you legally need to be paid 100% and where can I find this information to write to them if it’s true? Thanks Katie0 -
