How do you choose what car tyres to buy on a budget

I'd buy 4 tyres of the same if you are replacing all at the same time. Only time when you have different tyres on front or rear is when you only need to change 2.Welsh_and_proud said:
No they don't do rainsport 3 for my car but I've ordered two uniroyal rainexpert 3 but I don't know if to order another two for the back or put another brand on as I read they wear fast.Just_a_person said:
I run Uniroyal Rainsport 3s and the amount of grip in the rain is better than I had from the Pirellis that were on the car when I got it. I dont think they make the rainsport for 15 inch rims but they do have a Rain Expert which is just about on budget. If its wet weather grip you want these should be a contender. Just be mindful that they will probably not last as many miles as many other tyres.Welsh_and_proud said:I'm looking to buy 4 car tyres but I don't want to pay over £65 a tyre so how do I know what to buy that will be good in the wet.0 -
Resurrecting this thread in case someone reads it in the future.
Over the weekend, I took my car in for a service and needed to have a pair of rear brakes (near metal to metal on the rear passenger side) and tyres replaced (on the cusp of 1.6mm legal tread threshold on one tyre, the other tyre was just over 2mm). The garage recommended changing both rear tyres to enable even wear. I chose budget tyres (Riken - subsidiary of Michelin/ 215 55 R18) and cost me £70 per tyre fitted and balanced. Due to low tyre stock, the only other option was Pirellis which were around £150 per tyre. As I do around 3k miles a year mostly town driving, the garage said there isn't any point paying more for premium tyres.0
