We booked and paid for a cruise for 16 days in early March with fred Olsen direct online.  The ship was the Braemar, you know, the one that got stuck in the Caribbean.  The cruise was cancelled by the company and we were offered either a voucher doubling our money for any  future cruise  or a full refund.  We opted for the refund  by return  email as we thought we might not be able to do another and also we suspected that this covid thing might restrict us well into next year.  Still waiting fred !!!  If the worst happens will we be able to claim belatedly on our  insurance or will we just be an unsecured creditor ?

    You'll have to wait.

We booked a cruise with Fred Olsen way back in February 2018. It was due to depart 29th March and was cancelled by FOC 13th March. I requested refund on 21st March.

9th April we received Cancellation Invoice and had missed call asking us to phone them. Bank Holiday ensued and on 14th April, (1st chance to phone) got recorded message saying phone lines closed for 2 weeks so they could concentrate on refunds! Still waiting for our refund.

Phone lines are still 'temporarily' closed, though they've removed the reference to 2 weeks.

I'm composing my email to them and will send it tomorrow. Frustration is mounting due to lack of any communication from them. Being unable to phone, I sent the information I thought they needed (missed call message was vague) on 14th April. They haven't even acknowledged that email, nor have they told me exactly what they need.

Been attempting to contact Fred Olsen cruise lines and the automated systems suggested that I should just wait for payment refund as they are overloaded at the moment.   I am now worried !  Why am I worried ? Well my travel insurance .. LEISURE GUARD ... a moneysavingexpert expert recommended supplier has contacted me to renew my policy today 7 days ahead and I find that the policy magically does not cover me if Fred Olsen goes "tits up".  Neither does it cover me for the flights I booked for Australia back in February  for November before all this covid thing kicked off as any holiday or travel booked which it is not recommended to travel by H M Gov or the Aussie Gov now or  in the future is also exempt and not covered.  To cap it all my wife was emergency  rushed into hospital yesterday and when I told them i could not review our medical conditions yet because of this she said " Ah, an undisclosed medical condition, you should have notified us, your policy is now void! "  i declined to renew the policy (that's the polite version).  Martin  pick this up !

First and most important, hope your wife is ok
Seems like that's the norm for insurance companies

First of all I hope your wife is OK!

    A few questions:
When is/was the cruise due to sail
Did you book direct with Fred Olsen or through an agent
How did you pay for your cruise
Where are you up to in the process of claiming a refund from Fred Olsen

I got my cancellation invoice on 19th March but never got a phone call.
I then got my refund on my credit card on the 17th April.

Thanks that's useful. When did you actually say you wanted a refund?

Our phone call on 9th was to say that card used to pay deposit (in February 2018!) had expired. I supplied new details 14 April. Now been told it could take 8 weeks from 14 April for refund!

I got an email on 13th March saying that they had decided to cancel all cruises and to tell them via email if I wanted a refund or vouchers.
So I asked for a refund by return which I got about 5 weeks later.

So you requested refund 13 March, got cancellation invoice 19 March (6 days) and refund on 17 April (5 weeks total)
I requested refund 21 March, got cancellation invoice 9 April (19 days) and still no refund (6 weeks and counting). I really do understand Coronavirus has impacted them and am not overly concerned - yet.
