I thought society had moved on from the claims culture and was showing a little more sympathy and understanding of those who helped you get abroad in the first place.0 -

Hello Sashiko,i wasn't refering to passenger delay and cancellation,it was insurance the airlines have in regards to unforseen situation,this latest virus pandemic must be in there somewhere,a bit like claiming against volcanic ash.

I’m afraid that that sort of business interruption cover isn’t really available either- the problem with a pandemic is that it is so wide-ranging that the insurance industry could not cope with paying out to everyone afffected, so such cover is never offered.There has been a lot in the press about business interruption cover and COVID-19, if you google ABI (association of British insurers) they have made various statements about it.However, airlines do not have to pay out compensation on delay and cancellation claims caused by Covid because they fall within the “extraordinary circumstances” defence, so that covers the effects of unforeseen events as far as those liabilities are concerned. Care and assistance and re-routing must be provided even where an event is an extraordinary circumstance but usually it is not too much; the volcanic ash situation was unusual because it was so sudden and open-ended and so many people were stranded. (So the airlines had very big hotel and alternative transport bills to pay). Far fewer stranded by Covid.0

This is not a moral dilemma.
It it is an airline yet again trying to get out of their responsibilities and why should I subsidize a commercial organisation?
Airlines have always tried to make it as difficult as possible to make them live up to their responsibilities. Claim the compensation if it is yours by right and use it for whatever were the purpose you deem most appropriate
