Money Moral Dilemma: Should I claim for a cancelled flight when airlines are struggling?

No, @ajbucktaylor they don’t have insurance for these sorts of claims. I explained in my post earlier today.ajbucktaylor said:Take the money and run. I see the moral side, but the airline wouldn't. It is money you are due and the airlines have insurance for this exact reasons.1 -
BA may well have been right to reject the claim for Regulation 261 compensation. However the delayed/damaged suitcase is unconnected to Regulation 261 and you should push that @JustJen, particularly because they do indeed have insurance for baggage claims.JustJen said:I made a claim for everything including torn and shredded suitcase that got lost and did not reach me until 2 days later.. I received a letter from BA stating that they would not be paying any compensation. So anybody thinking of claiming, don't waste your time.1 -

It was if no use as she had to return from australia as soon as possible . And wouldn't be going back ...what should i do..thanks1

I'd say if you need it, you need it and if you're entitled to it, then why not.
There's certainly two sides to this argument but airlines are not treating customers very fairly at the moment - somewhat understandably as they're fighting for survival - but some families are being left out of pocket with no holiday and struggling to pay rent, mortgage and utilities.2 -
So the company pay for all of this out of their own pockets? Doesn't sound like great business sense to me. Maybe they should have spent less money buying back their own shares and giving money as dividends and kept it as capital in the companies.SashikoStitcher said:

I'm self employed, if something I do goes wrong then I have to spend my own time and money to rectify the problem. I have business insurance which covers me with certain things, but I pay out of my pocket when something goes wrong. that's the main problem with greedy owners that want to take take take but never give. IMO they mismanaged their finances, expect people to do the right thing to save from their errors and then expect the tax payer to save them so they can then make even more money in the future.

@aj@ajbucktaylor it’s not a case of business sense, good or bad. The insurance is not available to buy, it doesn’t exist. There is a long history of airline trade associations lobbying the EU Commission to change Regulation 261 because of the financial burden it places on their operations. The only way to minimise exposure is to minimise delays and cancellations, so you can see why the EU thought it would be a pretty strong incentive to force the airlines to up their game.ajbucktaylor said:

Check how much profit that airline made last year. I you think that wasn't enough for them then don't claim. Otherwise, make the claim and, if you don't feel out of pocket, donate the money to help the NHS or others in hardship in the current situation.

For me it would depend on the airline. From their general attitude to how they've dealt with employees and customers and what they expect/insist the government must do to preserve their profits/bonuses some desererve help, while others deserve to be taken for everything they've got.

Since you aren't out of pocket I wouldn't claim at this time... The bonus is you managed to get home1

Depends if the airline was a European one or not. If European they have to give a refund so just push for that and refer to the CAA if they don’t comply. If not European, depends on their terms and conditions so read those carefully.bumpydoodaa said:Hi..my wifes flight waa cancelled as the connecting stop over counrty closed the airport..the airline offered her a voucher to redeem by june which she could use for up to 12 months .
