It looks clean.
Insert knife or other longish object and try to turn impellor at back. Should be white or black shaped like a keyboard *Star.
It should turn around with a jerky movement.
Also if the machine is older or used a lot it may be the motor brushes worn out. Unsure if Hotpoint do brushless on that machine?
Open door turn drum by hand a few times, close door and see if any start with on button pressed.

It is one of the models on the recall list but whirlpool keep changing their minds about whether mine is faulty or not. I have messages from them confirming it’s faulty and others confirming it’s fine. I ended up just going round in circles with them so I gave up. This machine has been a problem from day one. It very often makes a burning smell when used and the clothes have to be re-washed. It doesn’t rinse things properly either. I have a feeling the problem now may in some way be related to the door lock.1

Problems might be simple or more like door interlock, control board, etc then its engineer or if old machine new buy?

I’ve ordered a new one from a local company who will also install it. I’m nervous about having someone in my house but I plan to stay upstairs while he’s here and just let him work away. Hopefully it doesn’t take too long. I’ll clean thoroughly afterwards.Tbh, I’ll be glad to see the back of this machine. I’ve hated it from the beginning. Thanks for the advice, everyone.1

I would suggest keeping the old one somewhere, then if it is recalled Hotpoint will take it and hopefully refund or if replacement you can sell on as new.
