Washing machine won’t start!

It was working fine this morning but now it won’t start the cycle. It makes all the right noises until I press the start button. It makes a shorter ‘beep’ than usual and then nothing happens. The water doesn’t start filling.
I’m not technically minded at all so unless this is something simple I’ll have to get a new one but I’ve checked both Curry’s and Argos and they aren’t doing installations anymore. I physically can’t even move this machine. I can’t ask anyone to come and help. I don’t know what to do. It’s the worst possible time for this to happen!

Perhaps make and model number would help?
Digital readout, any error codes?
Child lock on and programme now changed?

It’s a Hotpoint. The model number is WMFUG 742 P U.K.M
It’s not showing any error codes. When I press start, the countdown timer starts as if it’s still working.0 -

• The door is not closed properly. • The ON/OFF button has not been pressed. • The START/PAUSE button has not been pressed. • The water tap has not been turned on to allow water to flow into the machine. • A delayed start has been set.
Does the machine work in another programme ? try the spin one.

Look for any obvious obstructions in the filters etc. Have you overfilled the machine? Is anything preventing the door locking? As you say, bad time to happen...0

None of the programs work. The spin on it’s own does not work either. The door lock seems fine but I know there’s been a lot of faults with similar Whirlpool brand door locks recently. I don’t know where the filter is. The leaflet I’ve got says it has a ‘self-cleaning pump that does not require any maintenance’. Does that mean the filter?ETA: I haven’t overfilled it. I was just trying to wash two items.0

I see there is a keypad lock, could someone have been fiddling and switched that on in error ? also I presume you've tried switching off at plug, leaving it for a few mins then switching back on ?

It looks clean.0
