  • Not an investment opportunity but a request for help.  I'm writing an assessment for my students on capital structure and wondered if any of you know of any companies (probably AIM and preferably an RE company of course) that have issued lots of shares in recent years (but long enough ago to be published in the annual report).  Any ideas really appreciated. Thanks

Take a look at https://www.abundanceinvestment.com/invest-now there are many RE companies that have issued shares through it. Most have been going long enough to produce annual reports.
You may need to sign up for an account to look at the details/reports, but you don't have to invest, unless you want too.

Sadly I couldn't find anything suitable there as most of the companies have 'boring' equity structures but of course lots of debentures.  Any way thanks for helping. I found my solution with Greencoat UK Wind plc which has been issuing lots of shares (and is about to again I believe) as well as taking on more debt. Which makes me wonder if it's worth a flutter...........

  • With FTSE losing 165 points this week our ISA took a bit of a hit and fell back to .07% above the original investment price, so not a lot to show after three years!
Our Green Energy Storage Fund held firm taking the gap back up to ten from the previous 8%. Coincidentally a quarterly dividend of 1.75% also arrived. So, whereby the share price gap is a mere 10% the GESF has received a total of 8% in dividends making the actual difference 18%!
For the sake of continuity I'll stick to the share price gap in future leaving dividend income aside.

Something of a minor recovery in the stock market last week with both the ISA and GESF gaining 1% in value. So the staus quo remains with GESF 10% ahead.
I also became aware yesterday of an issue regarding the purchase/sale of shares via the medium of a mini Tender. Apparently, these are normally welcome as an elevated share price often results, however, with regard to a Conglomerate attempting to purchase less than 5% of a company's stock value then this may not be the case and the seller is then tied to selling them at the price offered and over an indefinite period of time. Possibly meaning that the seller will receive less than the market value at some unknown date in the future!
I believe this is in reference to U.S. shares only. The link below explains all this in more detail for anyone possibly interested or affected. Forewarned is forearmed!

So I fluttered! And I've found Greencoat and interesting business. The company states a principle objective of maintaining a dividend of around 7p per share.  At the recent offer price that's about a 5% annual return.  Being fully invested in Wind projects with contracts for the sale of electricity means that income is pretty predictable and importantly that there is no significant upsides (nor downsides) to the business.  So all in all this feels more like an investment in loan stock rather than shares. And whilst (of course) there's none of the protection of having loan stock rather than shares is does feel a little safer to me.   I much prefer this to schemes which directly link investment to buying leccy and I can hold these shares within a SIPP.

Does anybody else here hold Greencoat shares? Do you have a different view?

A further recovery last week saw FTSE rise above the 6k mark to close on 6014 with ISA gaining a full 1% over GESF to close the gap down to 9%.
It'll be an interesting time in the coming weeks with another lockdown potentially on the cards not to mention the matter of a little ballot across the Atlantic!

Received notification this week that Celtic Renewables Ltd are planning a fundraising campaign on Crowdcube shortly and offering shares in exchange. I was not previously aware of them so it's all new to me!
Basically they take bi-products from the Whisky distilling industry, ferment it and create Butanol, Acetone and Ethonal as well as high value animal feed. Apparently Butanol can be used as a direct replacement for petrol and diesel!
As Bev's are now a mature product and replacing FF versions I don't know if butanol could, in the long term, be aimed at cars. But it may prove a godsend to the aircraft and shipping industries as an interim for reducing the pollution they currently generate.
But what do I know! Lots of bedtime reading to look forward too.
Oh well, got to find something of interest to do while passing away Lockdown! :)

As of today Orsted are up by 33% since 14 June when I posted their shares as ones to consider.

May I apologise for disrupting this thread with that tip. (It has been suggested I should not contribute to this thread as apparently I am a troll so if I come across anything this good again I will keep it to myself.) It was well intentioned as it seemed a sensible place to put my own money. I am sure, however, that there will have been better suggestions on here and you will have done equally as well with those and shared my good fortune.

All the best, as they say.
