The official tax checker is https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/
If you think it's a government site, and it isn't .gov.uk, then it's a scam.4 -
From the bottom of the page you linked to. >> VehicleInformation.uk is not affiliated with the Government or DVLAsheramber said:check present tax position
Removed scam link
To get the info (which is FREE from DVLA ) this site charges £0.50p trial then >> £5.95 per month subscription......

Problem is it doesnt show up as sorn on the official gov web site, its just says tax ran out 28th September 2019. But no automatic fine has been sent out. Its just that the guy my dad gave the car too never recieved his new keeper log book so can't sorn it.born_again said:
Was the car SORN by the previous owner?renegadefm said:Thanks I did that and it came up with these results
Date of last V5C (logbook) issued26 October 2011
But what does that mean because dad who was technically the last owner should have recieved an automatic fine for not taxing it surely?
Odds on it was, hence no bribe issued.
So it looks like the change of owner never reached the DVLA.0 -
He can SORN it from the new keeper tear off slip which your father removed from the V5 and gave him before he sent it off(or from the photocopy he took of the V5 in case of problems - I never trust DVLA to do anything !

Just to give you an update on this folks.
I wrote and sent a letter to DVLA and I included my phone number asking them to ring me as all attempts to ring them failed.
Well to my amazement someone from DVLA rang me, and bizarrely they said the car has been lost on the system. I asked how on earth can that happen, but she wasent sure. I said but what happened to the log book, she couldn't answer that either. So I asked could that explain why neither person has got a fine for not taxing it, and she said quite possibly.
I thought did I just dream that or what?
How can a car thats only been off the road since last October be lost on the system?0
