DVLA lost a car on their system

If he still had the V5C/2 New Keeper slip, he wouldn't have to pay.renegadefm said:
The new keeper didnt recieve anything so technically isnt the one whos lost it. It would seem unfair he has to pay to sort it out.
His problem is having lost/binned that, since not only does that mean he'll have to pay, but it means a delay while DVLA contact the last registered keeper and say "Is this legit?"In hindsight should dad have been the one to SORN it before giving it away?
No. The SORN would have been cancelled on keeper change anyway.
The easiest way for the old keeper to avoid this would have been to notify of the keeper change online.1 -
Thanks. Its just over 6 months ago. I just asked my mate what exact date did Dad give it to him, it was 7th October 2019. Seems an excessive amount of time to have not sent out an automatic fine by now. Not that I am wishing that for anyone. But am I right in saying DVLA would have normally sent an £80 fine by now for not declaring it SORN?AdrianC said:

@AdrianC
Thanks for your help I appreciate it. But I can assure you my friend didnt recieve the log book that hes new keeper, he didnt lose or bin it, this is the puzzling thing to me, that and the fact neither of them have never been sent fines by now. 6 months seems extreme for DVLA not to have done anything. Because correct me if I'm wrong but even if my friend did recieve the V5 in his name he would have had the fine by now. Or not?0 -
I think Adrian is talking about the new keeper supplement slip not the whole logbook in your friends name.renegadefm said:@AdrianC

No, the "New Keeper" slip that your father would have removed from his V5C...renegadefm said:@AdrianC

DVLA are not taking phone calls unless you are a key worker or a HGC driver
So we can help those in most need, please do not call unless you are directly involved in the nation’s response to COVID-19. Unfortunately, we will not be able to respond to any other calls or general queries until further notice.

Was the car SORN by the previous owner?renegadefm said:Thanks I did that and it came up with these results
Date of last V5C (logbook) issued26 October 2011
But what does that mean because dad who was technically the last owner should have recieved an automatic fine for not taxing it surely?
Odds on it was, hence no bribe issued.
So it looks like the change of owner never reached the DVLA.Life in the slow lane1 -
Dad never sorned it as far as I know before giving it to my mate. I just remember Dad sent something away on the day of ownership change. Well money didnt change hands because it was a gift. But whats happened I dont know.born_again said:

There's two questions getting conflated here...
1. What's happened? Don't know, don't care, doesn't much matter.
2. What to do to resolve it? The new keeper needs to sort his V5C out asap. V62, and - if he's binned the new keeper slip - £25. Get it in the post today. Get his V5C, SORN it asap.2 -
Thanks I'll tell him. I have written a long explaination to DVLA now so will update as soon as they reply. Its post so not sure how soon that will be.AdrianC said:There's two questions getting conflated here...
