£45 contactless limit

the companies that do the payment acceptance have had to update their software at very short notice - rolling that out across a small operator is a lot easier than getting Tesco to update many thousands of devices.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

Sorry but it is. Retailers have to update their systems.bris said:It has nothing to do with retailers, it's your card provider that sets the limit.
While you are correct, that card provider sets limits. Each retailer can set their own limits.Life in the slow lane0 -
I'm not so sure about that. I think it's just the central system that has to be updated, not each card reader. I would imagine Farmfoods have thousands of card readers too.MallyGirl said:the companies that do the payment acceptance have had to update their software at very short notice - rolling that out across a small operator is a lot easier than getting Tesco to update many thousands of devices.I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.0 -
IanManc said:Steve's correct. My bill in Tesco yesterday was over £30 but the checkout lady explained that they weren't updating their systems to accept contactless payments of over £30 till later this month so I couldn't use contactless.Maybe they'll finally update their systems to accept Google & Apple Pay for transactions above £30 too...I use Tesco's Pay+ app in Tesco which is an alternative way to pay contactlessly (barcode within the app) up to £250.

My wife and I both shopped in Tesco yesterday and both of us using CC from same company. We could not use contact-less and both of us bought under £30. had to input pin number. probably coincidence.
BTW why does every branch of morrisons seem to have a slow Sandra on the checkouts LOL

I am sure. there is central software but also software on each PED You can't have a mix of versions safely so they have to choose the right time out roll out the software. They also know how quickly the change has been turned around so might deliberately wait a week to see if there are issues which get corrected before they have to take the pain.Shakin_Steve said:

I bow to your superior knowledge but, if Asda have done it, so should Tesco etc.MallyGirl said:

I waited until 8 o'clock tonight to try Asda, the queue of trolleys is about 200yds long most of the day. No queues tonight, brilliant, unfortunately no food left either 😕I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.1
