Our local Sainsbury's has bread flour (several brands ranging from £1.05 to £1.50 for 1.5 kilos) ... no sign of SR or Plain though.  So I just nip across the road to Aldi where they are 45p a bag.

no normal flour seems to be available either. Everyone baking?

My wife bakes, but we can't find good quality flour around anymore
Shipton mill online store has been open for a couple of weeks now. White flour is a bit pricey and definitely not money saving, speciality (buckwheat, barley, oat, millet, spelt, rye, chestnut, etc) flour is superb and very reasonably priced.

Aldi had 16Kg bags of bread flour this morning.  Lidl had a shelf full of 1.5Kg.  Asda site said I could order some wholemeal for an on line order, don't know where they would get it from as there was none on the shelf in store.
Asda do not say its out of stock but if you try adding it to your order it then tells you it is not available
This weeks order did allow me to put Asda's own white bread flour on my order but was substituted
with a white bread mix which I returned. I find that happens quite regularly with Asda the item does not show out of stock until you try adding it to the order.

I've noticed my local ASDA are now stocking larger quantities of flour including bread flour. Hopefully supply chains are starting to recover.

Heygates Mills are now selling to the public again but are charging a lot for delivery per bag not per order. I am very pleased with the chappati flour from Tesco, I have made some lovely bread with it and at £3.50 for 10kg it was a bargain, not tried cakes using it yet, has anyone else?
    Slightly bitter

Bread flour? What are you guys doing, tickling the dough? Put your back in to it and work that gluten.
Perfectly good bread can be made with bog standard plain flour.
This is today's sourdough out of a 1/3 of an aldi 45p bag of plain flour.

wow amazing bread. We had a go at making sourdough starter last week, bubbled at first then went dormant/dead with nothing happening for a week. We fed it twice daily with organic flour and tap water and kept on top of boiler for warmth. Any idea what we did wrong?
