Tyres

Options
Hi,
Have noticed today that I have no pattern on the very inside edge of the tyres so need to get them done asap (theres plenty left across the rest of the tyre so likely tracking which I will get done). There were no signs a month or so ago when I last checked.
But to keep legal I want to get the tyres done asap.
I wont be going to my normal garage so was looking at either using tyresonthedrive or kwikfit mobile (would not noramlly touch QF)
Anyone had any experiences with their mobile services?
Cheers

I had two tyres fitted today, you might be surprised who is open worth a phone call.
  • My usual is open I think but trying to do the best not to go out hence why Im after mob fitting. On closer inspection I can now see some cord so dont really want it on the road either.

As long as there's 1.6mm of tread across 75% of the width the tyres are legal.

That's an over-simplification. The OP says "I can now see some cord"

Most  mobile fitters don’t offer ‘tracking’;...KwikFit certainly don’t,... Tyresonthedrive  may?? be able to do it if the road surface/location is suitable.

Perhaps best to concentrate on getting the new tyres fitted and perhaps sort out the tracking at a later date,...given the current situation.

However, If you can get the tracking done at the same time then all well and good.

I wouldn’t worry too much about who actually fits them;...the various ones I’ve used over the years (probably 4 or 5 times) have all been very competent and much of a muchness really.

Can’t remember if I’ve specifically used KwikFit mobile  but I may have done.

  • yep as its literally going 2 miles to the shop for groceries once a week will sort the tracking out once this hopefully passes.

I used Tyres on the Drive (aka Halfords) a couple of weeks ago as I had a slow puncture in one of my run-flats.  Turned up as expected.  Turned out to be an o-ring on the valve so the guy just replaced that and I got a refund for most of the cost as I didn't need the tyre. (call out fee applied, which I think was £40).

But you also need a visible pattern across the remainder of the tyre around the entire circumference. So 2mm in the middle and bald on the edge is not legal.
