We certainly have sufficient slugs that they could form a good part of our diet RT, but no, not this time! 😆
Last of the salad used up last night as planned.I have half a punnet of mushrooms that need using but will probably take advantage of the cheap electric this afternoon to chop them up and fry them with some garlic and butter - they’ll freeze for future use then.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

@EssexHebridean - Our Department of Agriculture puts out a pamphlet on cooking and eating our local snails. Seems they were imported from France, got loose and multiplied, and are the snails used for escargot. Still can't get anyone in the family to try them though - not even me. A couple of our local restaurants do serve escargot soup.5

I love the sharing of recipes on here! I was out yesterday, so breakfasted (yoghurt, nuts, seeds and honey) before meeting a friend for coffee (and a toasted teacake) before my main reason for being the other side of the next County; going on to a bee lecture, at a village hall about 40 miles away. It was great to catch up with my friend, and chew the cud over a few things. It has been a year.
The lecture was late, and the village hall has not been updated like ours (in respect of air-con/heating and ultra-fast [free] wifi). Being late, it did mean I missed the traffic congestion, post serious accident outfall on the way home. The lecture was interesting - using AI and big computing to improve our understanding of the impact of pyrethroids on pollinators when used to treat seed or spray on crops.
I was so relieved I had prepared a pasta bake on Thursday that we had yesterday evening. I just made a cheese sauce and baked it until everything was hot and the cheese was browning. Last week's meal plan went mostly as expected with the exception of Monday, where we picked up MrL instead of home cooking due to a nightmarish commute home!
Lunches were also as planned which really kept the budget in check!
Freezer use-it-up project has been happening slowly but surely, ice creams have been had 😉 & ribs & wings are out defrosting for today! So there is breathing room in there now, but nowhere near one drawer empty which is the OH's goal.
This week's plan involves one item a day from the freezer/stores in true reverse planning style!
Monday - Veggie Day - Pierogi & onion & peppers (found a forgotten pack in the fridge to make the veggie go further!)
Tuesday - Fish Day - white fish curry & rice & spinach on the side (new recipe for OH to try)
Wednesday - Chicken Day - Pesto pasta & chicken & courgette (chicken & pesto & pasta from freezer & stores)
Thursday - Meat Day - Persian lamb & celery with jersey royals (we will use pork instead, as it is more affordable!)
Friday - Fakeaway Day - Hot Dogs with Cheese & nachos with dip on the side (use up some nachos from the stores)
Saturday - Easy Eating Day - Pizza & Garlic Sauce with a side of peppers/onions/courgettes
Sunday - Roast - Lamb Biryani - tried and true recipe from my uni days - not roast but costs the same as roast! (all ingredients from the freezer & stores)
Lunches - only two in the city this week and both will make use of points to buy meal deals4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Too hot for meat yesterday, Mr Sl polished off the pasta bake for lunch. I made butter bean and avocado salad for supper. Then strawberries and cream. Yum!
Sausages this evening. With salad, I thinkSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Living off a made up Mexican spicy soup done in the slow cooker yesterday. Too hot for real cooking, no salad in stores and just cannot be bothered to go cooking but made a soup using some chicken stock, frozen sweetcorn, frozen onion, frozen garlic, tin of black beans, a couple of chicken breasts, a couple of peppers, a tin of tomatoes, some chilli powder and a jar of jalapenos. All lurking and soup very yummy. Added an avocado and some tortilla chips from stores for the Mexican effect.
Lots of soup left so that will do for this evening too. (No avocado but not going out for that)
