@Primrose - we tend to marinate our fresh salmon which to my palate makes it less 'fishy' & also use it on the day it is delivered.  Frozen salmon gets cooked from frozen without marinade, but that does mean scraping off the white protein gel before serving - I don't find the frozen farmed stuff to have that strange flavour maybe something to do with it being flash frozen?

We tend to eat salmon either in a risotto or steamed over white wine or, more usually, cider (as we have that in all the time) and herbs. Both involve mildly acidic flavours so perhaps that takes out the muddy taste - we also get ours from a fishmongers and to be honest, I think it tastes better.

Hi all, my use up the freezer contents meal plan has worked well this month. It's also made it easier for me as I haven't had to think about what to cook!
We've got loads of tomatoes ripening up. already planned a bacon and potato layer dish for Tuesday so will use some then.
Going to sit down on Wednesday and do a freezer inventory and plan meals for September.

Got out a jerk beef stew from the freezer for dinner yesterday but ended up eating out at lunchtime and was still full up so just had some crackers and cheese in the evening, so we'll be having the jerk beef stew with rice 'n' peas tonight instead.

  • Ohh can i join in please. Was running down my cupboards and freezer but a relative has just filled them back up again with the contents of her cupboards and freezer. Don't get me wrong, I'm very grateful for this, it saves me tons but i definitely need to do some reverse meal planning otherwise I'll just keep doing my regular shop. It's an opportunity to spend less but i do tend to go a bit mad at the supermarket even though I've got my cupboards full.

First things i need to use up some large mushrooms, a Savoy cabbage, I'll need to cook a whole chicken tomorrow that didn't fit in the freezer and some sausages and wholemeal bread.

So tomorrow sausage sandwiches for family for breakfast, mushrooms and egg on toast for me, lunch will be some left over pasta bolognaise, dinner roast chicken with cabbage and some roasties.

I have a TON of rice to use now. Any ideas apart from fried rice and boiled rice?

I got out a pork loin joint for DH to prepare and make smoked bacon with but once defrosted it was obviously very badly cut and would fall to pieces if the string is cut so have left it tied and will be making a roast for dinner tonight along with all the trimmings!

The LO pork will be served tomorrow with HM chips, beans & tomatoes.  The rest of the LOs will become sweet and sour pork for Friday night along with some rice.

Aubergines I decided not to make baba ganoush with and lamb mince I have no idea why I defrosted turned into a delicious lamb and aubergine fatteh with lots of herbs and spices. And chickpeas. And yogurt. Three portions for the freezer.

Sounds like a great meal @greenbee, I love when things that you throw together turn out really nicely.

Have half a leek and some mushrooms lurking in the fridge so going to add them to some mac and cheese for lunch today to use them up.

Realised last night that I've actually emptied 2 of the freezer drawers now so might be able to actually defrost it without too much hassle over the weekend!

Had a few chipolatas floating about so we had them with new potatoes, tromboncino squash and green beans with a dob of butter, salt and pepper. Everything from ours or our neighbour's garden except the sausages. I quite like the squash just steamed - bit more firm than courgettes and a mild flavour (I pick them at about 45cm rather than letting them get enormous)
