@ruby_eskimo - DH doesn't like the Rosemary and Red Onion sausages either!  It would have to be real meat ones for him but I'd be OK with the veggie ones.

@rtandon27 I usually use the SW recipe but the Olive recipe is similar, although I don't do mine in a pastry case as I don't eat pastry!  Just cook it in a potato, cheese and veg mixture in a deep cake tin.  The BBC one looks very rich with the double cream in it so would think that would be lovely.

@rtandon27 I do a lazy homity pie: boil and mash some potatoes, fry off a leek and onion, add frozen peas to the leek and onion mixture, mix it all together with some grated cheese, add more cheese on top and bake for about 15-20 minutes.  It has the spirit of a homity pie with minimal effort 😂
That's pretty much how I make it too!

I'm seriously considering homity pie now...

We had veg curry last night - just a tray of roasted veg; pumpkin, the last carrot, leeks, aubergine added to a fried onion and some garlic then mixed with a bit of paste that was in the fridge, needing to be used up and a box of the cooked-from-dried butterbeans that went a bit sloppy as they were heated through.

It will either be homity pie or no-pasta tray bake tonight

  • We ate at MIL's last night, she's in our bubble and we go every Wednesday night so didn't need to do any cooking.
I've taken some cod  fillets out the freezer and will probably breadcrumb and fry them. They were 70p in the markdowns a few weeks back. I'm not sure what to have with them, I have lots of potatoes so they will probably feature in some form.
Any ideas for parsnips that aren't soup? My neighbour works on a farm and brought us a huge bag, before Christmas and I'm still working through them, we've had the usuals, roast, mashed and I made parsnip 'latkes' the other day so looking for new ideas.

@Porridgecat - We've been using our Christmas parsnip & stilton glut by making this tart & serving with a side salad for a bit of freshness - it's really tasty!

  • Thanks rtandon, I'll give that a go, I think I have puff pastry in the freezer and might even have some frozen blue cheese, if not I'm sure cheddar will work.

What about parsnip and carrot fritters with garlic mayonnaise? This recipe is good but a bit sweet for us - I would add chilli flakes and half of the honey the recipe suggests
