I have been on the phone to Emirates only to be offered a voucher or an open ticket! We want a full refund as we were travelling to Thailand for Thai New year. I have been told that they would keep £200 per PERSON if I want a refund! £800 in total if we want our money back surely this is beyond wrong! We haven't cancelled our flights Emirates have had to cancel - which we fully understand. Why can;t we have a full refund?

Would you have to resort to this option?? But what does "unable to travel for 12 months" even mean..

    Travel voucher terms and conditions

    • Travel vouchers are valid for one year from date the voucher was issued and can be used for any Emirates product or service and can be extended for another year.
    • Travel vouchers are issued per passenger and are non-transferable.
    • You can use the travel voucher throughout the year for multiple transactions if you wish to (up to its value).
    • You will also receive travel vouchers for any services you have paid for associated to your ticket.
    • We will send your travel voucher to the email address you enter while completing this form.
    • Should you be unable to travel for 12 months from the date we issued your voucher, you can extend for another year or opt for a cash refund subject to fare conditions applicable at the time of your original booking.

They are just keeping our money wrongly! "Should you be unable to travel..." probably covers cancelled flights again I'm guessing.

Agree. I'm not sure what we can do or say to help get our money back :/

I am in the same situation, I was due to fly to Australia for a wedding, so im not going to need voucher or alternative flight now :( I have contacted tesco this morning who have said they wont do a chargeback as Emirates have offered a voucher!

First, we all should be sympathetic and understanding to the providers (putting more pressure is of no use here) as this is an unprecedented situation that has blown out of proportion to which no airline or tour operator and even the insurers are not prepared for.
    The problem with these vouchers
    • Only valid for 12 months
    • You won't get tickets in future for same price as now. I tried summer next year the ticket prices are at £600 each, I booked in Jan for £450 each, for a family of 4 big difference to pay.
    • Due to the airline offering voucher for full amount, CC companies deny to do a chargeback.
    • You have no choice but to use the same airline

If your flight has been cancelled - properly and formally cancelled - then this is ridiculous. It might be worth trying again with Tesco, and if you didn't last time, you should specify that you're legally entitled to the refund by law (EU 261).

If your flight hasn't been cancelled, it gets much hairier and Tesco might be right unfortunately.

Personally I had Etihad cancel my flights, refuse to give a refund, which I documented and sent to my CC company. CapitalOne refunded me in 48 hours - feel quite lucky they took a no-nonsense approach!

Emirates will give 2 years with the vouchers which may mean up to almost 3 years to travel.

    Hi Everyone,

I've spoken to my bank (who originally told me I couldn't claim my money through them as Emirates have offered vouchers)
I rang back the day after reiterating the banks own policies - below!
So the voucher system is covered in the second point and the cancellation is covered in the first point.
Emirates should be ashamed of themselves that they are acting like this at this moment in time. I will never book flights with them again.

I started this tread so i'll give you an update.
When my flights ( Returns -Glasgow to Australia via Dubai)  were cancelled I applied via the Emirates Web site for a refund.
I made it clear in the notes I was expecting a FULL CASH REFUND as they had cancelled
Total Cost £1710.40 PLUS insurance of £82.20 by AGI the Emirates.com recommended company
Today i received a CASH REFUND (back on my credit card) of £1454.40
The shortfall of £256.00 I have worked out is the cost of pre booking our seats.
    My next thoughts are -
     1) Does the Pre booking seat cost of £256.00 come at a later date ?
    2) The trip didn't take place is there any chance of some form of refund on the insurance cost ?
    Anyone experienced Similar ???

    Just wondering if you selected:
and if you left any other comments other than you were expecting a full cash refund?
With regards to your pre-booked seats have you tried using the same refund page to claim them back? I noticed there was an option for claiming a refund for seat selection.

    Thanks
