Does an unlocked mobile become locked to the first sim inserted

As per the title really. I'm thinking of buying a Motorola E6 Plus (simple PAYG - no plan) from Carphone Wharehouse and their site says "Most of the phones we sell aren't locked to a network, including almost all of our SIM free phones. That means you can put any UK SIM card into your phone and enjoy the benefits of whichever UK network you prefer."
However I've read somewhere that the phone will become locked to the first sim inserted.
Is this true?

    No.........
  • I think it was just iphones that were unlocked , but locked to first sim fitted , some places this happened other places did not

as its not an iphone you are looking at , dont worry , just buy and fit sim you wish to use

    Sounds good. Thanks.
Edit: Just did a search to ask if that version of phone is provided unlocked and I see many sites (mainly US) offering unlock codes for a price. One says " [The code]  was created to remove the blockade from all Motorola phones that have an ANDROID system."
I can't get in touch with Carphone Wharehouse now, so I'm wondering if this phone is supplied locked or not.
    Any advice?

I purchased a "SIM Free" Moto G7/from CPW, last year and it most certainly was completely unlocked. It was used with SIMs from different networks from the start without any issues whatsoever.

All CPW phones are unlocked apart from Iphones which as said are locked to the first sim.

  • if you walk into a high street shop , a phone shop , lets say a vodophone shop and buy a phone on contract or as payg , and the box says "vodophone" then it will be locked to vodophone , however if you walk into an indipendent (and CPW are indipendant) and buy a phone without network name on box then it will be unlocked
