Silly question I know but if there is not a ring main nearby, how will the leccy fit a socket, spurs are not allowed now, are they?

Spurs not allowed since when? All electrical suppliers have them and some info here.

    Spurs are allowed.

Multiple spurs off the same socket is wrong.  Multiple sockets (more than one double socket) on a spur isn't allowed.  But one double socket is OK.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

If you had an electrician in and he wired it as you say, then he obviously checked all, right back to consumer unit to ensure connection was safe. Then there would no problem plug to socket but it would be better on wall fixed than lying on floor.

Mine is fixed to the wall, the wall behind the oven.

Thanks for everyone’s response. Problem sorted and my oven is working now, happy days! Btw my hubby knew what to do, I just wanted to cross check on here (without telling him) and that way I understand what’s going on too. 😁
