The latest version of Edge has exactly the same problems on my laptop - never gets off "processing request"!!
Microsoft Edge Version 83.0.478.58 (Official build) (64-bit)
is running sweet as a nut on my laptop at the moment but ...oh dear,...that
info you posted is a bit disconcerting.
However, prompted by the helpful post above by ‘rdr’ I’ve
just revisited Google Chrome and removed ‘AdBlock Plus’ which I’ve had running
for years...voila!...Google Chrome works properly again.
I then reloaded
AdBlock Plus, fully expecting a return of the “"processing request" problem, but Google Chrome continued
to work fine.
A full reboot, just to make sure, and Google Chrome (and
AdBlock Plus) functioning normally.
Many thanks to those suggesting removal of Adblock Plus. This seems to have resolved the problem I have had with Google Chrome. I am no longer tearing my hair out.

Me neither - worked like a charm!
I am surprised by just how much I missed using Chrome on my laptop, considering I am always using my tablet and phone but so relieved to have it back. No migrating to Edge for me.
