Bumping as I'm having exactly the same problem - after smooth running for years, tabs seem to be stuck on "processing request". Has this got something to do with Microsoft Edge trying to usurp Google Chrome?

I have a number of tabs open that I don't want to lose and umpteen passwords saved to Google Chrome too. How do I fix this without incurring a loss of data?
Exactly same for me; Firefox, IE, Edge all working fine but Chrome stuck on "processing request".
All was well yesterday;...however, this update was installed last night!....might just be coincidence
     though  :s

Tried full-reboot but the problem persists.

You won't lose your passwords so long as you have been logged into chrome with a google account - they will be stored and reloaded when you log back in.

I don't think there's a way to fix this wihile somehow not having to reopen the tabs that were open.

I’ve spent an absolute age trying to resurrect Chrome but to no avail;...the "processing request" problem still persists.

I’ve used Chrome for donkeys years but life’s too short and I’m not expending  any more effort on it,...I’m moving over to ‘Edge’,...I’ve reconstructed my Favourites bar and will add/save any appropriate site login credentials as I go along.

All good so far;...Edge seems a bit slicker than Chrome.

    I use a win-10 HP laptop, btw.

Native Edge or latest Edge? (The latest one is Chromium-based, same as Chrome).

It certainly has the appearance/feel of Chrome!...but the big difference for me is that the (Chromium) MS Edge is actually working,... whereas Google Chrome, for whatever reason, has turned bandit on my laptop.

Usual fix is to delete the profile and create a new one (or do it the other way round).

Thanks for the reply :) ,...spent an age trying all the ‘usual’ fixes including that one...there seems to be a lot of ‘fixes’?? going back years for this particular problem. Never encountered it before myself though.

But, as I said earlier, I’m not devoting any more time to Google Chrome. MS Edge is my new bff (hopefully!)

The latest version of Edge has exactly the same problems on my laptop - never gets off "processing request"!!
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.
  • Not a particular Google Chrome fan, but the OP's thread prompted me to view what was going on when I opened up the Chrome browser. According to task manager, there were 16 processes running, 4 of which were "Software Reporter Tool". Apparently this is a known Chrome issue and was being reported upon at the back end of 2019. It has obviously still not been fixed and I'm just wondering if it is linked to the difficulties which users on this thread appear to be experiencing.
I would try "end task" in your task manager for each of those respective processes to see if that makes any difference.

I had this with firefox, turned out to be caused by the AdBlock Plus add-in, removed that and replaced it with an alternative and all is fine.
