  • but you're mobile is digital too isn't it? Ever suffered a bad connection?
Bad example! A mobile may be digital, but there are too many other variables to be taken into consideration when considering mobile signal strength. A digital cable signal loss is usually caused by length of cable and crosstalk, and seeing as most lengths of run is less than 3m, the attenuation will be negligible.

Over that, yes, you may get some degradation of signal, risking digital dropouts and possible pixellation.

Mobiles use radio, an analog medium so your analogy doesn't really hold up.
I'm not saying buy one from the local car boot, but don't fall for the vastly overpriced cables that some stores try to sell you. Probably because extended warranty sales are drying up.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Can we assume that the TV is "Full" 1080p, otherwise you wont get the best Blu-Ray pic

erm broadband (a digital service) uses analogue mediums - ooh and so does digital TV. It's not as simple as on or off as there wouldn't be enough bandwidth on the cables.
  • Hi all,

I'm pretty clueless with technology so any help will be greatly appreciated.....I've just bought a Playstation 3 and am about to get as new TV to play it on, only trouble is i don't want to get skanked into buying a pointlessly expensive HDMI cable. I will buy a cheapish one for about £10 but this is where i need some help:

Do i just need to get a straight HDMI - HDMI cable if i buy a HD ready TV? If i buy a "Full HD" TV, do i still need to even buy a HDMI cable and if not, then what cable do i need?

Its my assumption that you only need buy a HDMI - DVI cable if i was plugging in, say, regular Sky or a regular DVD player into an HD TV, if i was to have a blue ray player or SKY HD, then i would just need an HDMI - HDMI lead. BUT again, if i have a full HD TV do i still need to buy HDMI cables for this HD Sky or blue ray stuff???? Please HELP!!!!
