Thanks both. Got it sorted.

I was able to access the Live Chat from the Android app and closed my savings account quickly with the chatbot.(I was in the same situation as everyone else - just got the auto-responder from the secure message, and no live chat on my desktop.)0

I tried to close redundant cash ISA with 0 balance on 6th May via chat with the bot (ios app). Nothing happened.Noupoi said:I was able to access the Live Chat from the Android app and closed my savings account quickly with the chatbot.(I was in the same situation as everyone else - just got the auto-responder from the secure message, and no live chat on my desktop.)
Just tried again and eventually got connected to a real person who has requested closure for me. Time will tell.0 -
I know it's over 6 years on but thought I'd add my penny's worth..
I used Santander after it took over my Abbey National a/c for decades. I was with Abbey since 1969, mortgage, savings, etc!
So it was for sentimental but also practical reasons, that after moving to Germany, nearly 30 years ago, I kept my UK Santander a/c - handy when visiting UK.
Gradually, such services such as no secure messaging disappeared, for some time now (years?).
Now only machine-chat or 0800 number in specific situations/circumstances - are available (0800 numbers are only domestic, working within the land one is in!
I've not bothered with Santander - Germany because of the general poor customer services experienced in the UK.
I've decided now to close the account altogether and just stick to my German bank a/c.
Goodbye Santander!

Love a callback to an old thread. I'm also with Santander for historical reasons - was with Abbey National too. The benefits like pretty much everything including my hairline have slowly eroded. Just this week I was downgraded from the 123 to Everyday, so no "making money" from my current account. I do note that most countries pay for theirs still though, and also in many cases pay extra to make transactions like out-of-bank transfers. No messaging is still a pain though - I've used chat on a few occasions and it's never a smooth or satisfying experience.
But I'll stay for now - I have loads of other accounts opened for bonuses, and all much of a muchness. A fairly horrific experience with Barclays led me to believe the grass is not much greener elsewhere2
