Completion imminent but will removal companies be working?

We moved today and our movers said they are booked up for the next 2 weeks. Whatever happens, a lot of people will be in exactly your position. I had the same worries and it turned out ok! Try not to worry too hard about what you can't control (I need this advice myself haha).
I keep telling myself it'll be fine but hearing from others has given me hope
It probably will be fine at least for the coming weeks.
It doesn't matter how well staffed the company is or the willingness for it to provide the service, if the government orders the business to close they will have no choice. But it doesn't seem like things will go that way in the immediate future.

We have a removal company  and are still working taking as many precautions  as possible now including  sanitizing hands and vehicles, disposable  gloves and face masks ( i know ,but may help ) At the momemt people are so far down the process  they  cant stop so will need Removal services .I would be surprised if it continues .We also do general transport and are  even running into and out of europe ,drivers  are pretty well isolated  in their vehicle's  so its not a huge concern

If the advice given is continually ignored. Then lock down is a certainty. Does seem to be a lack of basic comprehension as to the seriousness of the situation by many people.
Company owners and directors have personal liability for the welfare of their employees under Health and Safety Legislation.
We are  actually running transport  as to government advice WE  have been given

That is logical - as it's not as if removers are "around and about" socialising. Even in lockdowns I gather people are allowed to get to/from work and this would be an extension of that.

Just think of all the legal nightmares etc once things get back to normal if removals couldnt proceed and a moving-in household knew it was their completion day and that had happened and they were about to move and found the previous household still living there. The thought of all the conflicts - as the owners camped out on their lawns or something if the previous owners were still there in their new home would be horrendous.

Not to mention those moving out of rented accommodation into their own new home and they'd had to get out and then found they might literally not have a roof over their heads!

Having watched Boris tonight I think we are done for as far as moving on Thursday but I have to say I totally agree with his decision. We won't be the only ones in this position and surely there can't be any penalties if completion doesn't go ahead just now.

In times of War normal rules do not apply. Have no fears. Everybody will need to cooperate to see our way through this crisis.

Well that's it. We are completely screwed. Our removal company cancelled and others I have called are only honoring the bookings they had already taken for people that have exchanged. Completion day will be bitter sweet.

If anyone knows of a company working in Norfolk ..... ;-)
  • We have been told our self-van hire agreement is unaffected thankfully.
