As some people have rightly pointed out the decision about what happens to suspects is entirely down to the Crown Prosceution Service.

The system has changed quite recently and works as follows (in theory!):

    The police arrest the suspect

Statements are taken from the victim and any witnesses

    Police interview the suspect

Police gather any other evidence (cctv etc)

A custody Sgt then decides if the case needs to go to the CPS (depends on the offence and also if the person can get a caution or Fixed Penalty).

If it does need to got to cps Police present all this to the CPS lawyer at the Police station (or over the fax/phone out of hours) who then deceides what, if any, charges should be made.

Unfortunately for victims the first option considered is always a caution or fixed penalty notice but as stated above they suspect has to admit the offence in order to get one of these.

In short, it is unfair to blame the Police - blame the CPS instead!!

In this case, the police chose to issue a formal caution, and did not refer the case to the CPS.

    Hello,

Aw thats realy bad that they did that to your front door. Im guessing as their employer you have their address on file?...

Im sure you could get a friend to go around and repay the favour. Iv done a favour twice by nipping round the local scumbags house with a bally on. Iv also called in a favour once or twice too. Just make sure you use someone who's not a complete muppet so it never gets back to you thats all il say.

The Police are a waste of space, alot like the NHS they are more interested in keeping up with government targets than actually sorting crime out!

What a supremely brilliant way of getting the police to demonstrate that they do indeed care about crime:

A situation where the OP and his friend get done for conspiracy.

    To clarify.

The point I was making was that the Police cannot charge with out going through the CPS who, whenever possiable, will tell the police to caution. Hence although in this case the police have made the decision with out refering to CPS they only way they could have charged would have been to go through the CPS. They CPS would not authorise the charge but would insist that the offender was cautioned - their hands are tied by the system.

Lol, that would probably happen! Its much easier to go after someone who cares than some lout who doesnt!

And we all know that the Police take a tough stance when there is the chance of a quick conviction to help clearup rates!

Remember, I did say not to use a complete muppet so it never gets back to you. Thats the key to it;)

i know exactly how you feel we were woken up a few weeks ago to a drunk kicking our door in shouting abuse and i was terrified as we have two very small children and didnt know this man from adam he must have got wrong address we called 999 twice they were that slow we had the house alarm going to alert people we were in a mess and the man just shouted more abuse lit a fag smoked it and left the stub in our path as a souvenior! it is outragous the police got here about 4 am when he'd gone and said the best thing was for us to go back to bed as noone was getting our front door it is secure enough!! i was livid and couldnt sleep after all what went on they didnt take any details no police report nothing and yet that man couldve been armed and we were terrified (i had stood in my nightie at the window earlier and told the drugged or drunken man he had the wrong house and he was having none of it he was in no fit state at all) i was so scared that if the girls woke up to that they would never feel safe in our home again. the week after a young drunkem lad tried to smash our car window in broad daylight i banged on the window and off he went saturday afeternoon at 2pm ish we told the police passing in a van and they said "oh we havent come for that we are looking for an old black man wandering about puzzled!!" i thought what about the drunk youth up the road with a great 2 litre bottle of cider in his hand wandering about puzzled who almose smashed our car window! again nothing logged no police report no interest whatsoever!
the police these days are letting us down i am very disappointed:rolleyes:
ps, we barrakade ourselves in now every weekend by parking our car over our gate it is the only way i feel safe!
  • I know how you feel, we had two drunks walk passed and throw something at our window smashing it. We run out and grab them and phoned the Police who came down arrested them. Case thrown out as they didn't have enough evidence. We caught them and they admitted it and we had what they threw (fingerprints?) and witnesses.
No evidence?? We caught them for them! what more do the Police need??
Help me to help you :santa2:

Who "threw it out" if the courts then what are you whinging about the police for ?
If the CPS who would not prosecute, then again what are you whinning about the police for ?

The police turned up and arrested the offenders but if there is felt to be not enough evidence by some other party which decides on whether to charge, prosecute or whatever, what more can the police do ? Dont you think the police also care about it that some low life doesnt get prosecuted, not that even going to court is really much of an issue for them.
  • Put some security cameras up, doesn't have to cost allot. The police asked me this question when i had someone walk into my house last year and pick my bag up and walk out with it. Its evidence they can use. I now have security cameras at the front and the back and directly on my car too and it's recorded on the PC so they can be watched at the same time. You can use your TV as well and like I say it doesn't have to cost the earth.
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

    OP, I can sympathise entirely.

My son's car was smashed to bits by a young "gentleman" in the early hours of the morning, back in June. Within 8 hours, we'd had phone calls saying who it was, backed up by text messages from this thug. We immediately called the police, asking them to do something urgently, as it was likely he was injured while carrying out his good work.

The officer in charge of the case was off work, unfortunately, and the matter could not be passed on to anyone else.

It took numerous telephone calls and letters before the police finally went out to him SIX WEEKS AND TWO DAYS LATER, to ask him if he'd done it. Just to ask him if he'd done it. That's all.

He said no (of course), so they could do nothing more, apparently.

They also confirmed that the little so-and-so already had a previous caution for an identical attack some months previous.

My faith in police (what little I had) has not been helped by this little incident.

Did you show them the text message? It does count
