What is your budget?1

I would think getting the data off the old one, and knowing what software they use and the versions would be more important. I would back that pc up too before handing it back, on two different devices.
What is the person going to use this PC for, and will it have any cameras attached, or something else attached?1 -

He's just bought a farm so I guess whether he spends 100 or 1K won't be a large % of the totals, but as always, he and I want something that is best value. He was surprised when I told him the £95 one from Amazon was rubbish as someone had told him that it would do the job!

What is the person going to use this PC for, and will it have any cameras attached, or something else attached? It's going to be in the farm office to do some simple data entry, emails etc. Plenty of 'box ticking' forms that the authorities like!No cameras, probably a printer, that's all.. The farm is about 100 miles away so I suspect Mr Farmer will buy it, get me to set it up with MS Office and then send it to the farm for them to do the data transfer. Because it's an ongoing business, I don't think they could ship their current laptop to me for data transfer. Mr Farmer thinks that the current manager is capable of transferring the data.0 -

I don't meant it is not fit for purpose right now. But I would rather recommend a £150 i5 6th gen PC which he can use for the next 5 - 6 years, rather than he come back to me within 2 years and say the PC is slow again.
And if he running a farm as business, you may just buy a brand new PC or build one with quality parts. He can claim it through expense.
And he don't need to worry about it for the next 10 years.

I would tend to agree. But in comparison to the Amazon bundle, these are luxury products.0 -
I had that £50, and it ran xp fantastically, and I still have one now in a cupboard as it has an ide interface, possibly sata too?, and sometime usb converters just do not work. No idea any more what os is on it. I agree 100% with Cisco001, personally would not be buying less than a 6th gen.
I do not know your arrangement, but the could plugin a usb disk and save an image as to be opened on virtualbox, and the get it sent back to you

You can find cheap new monitor for just over 70. I would not buy old monitor for 60.
