I had this problem before, just ran it a few days so that MOT was a couple of days after the 1st of the month made life much easier going forward.0

My first MOT is due in April 2020 and my Car Tax is due 1st of May 2020. My local garage is now closed due to Covid 19 despite the government extending MOT 6 months regarding Covid 19, I still cannot extend my Car Tax online or at the post office without a valid MOT. Can anyone advise0

Sit tight until 3 days before your first MOT is due. Then it should have updated to say MOT isn't due until October, and you can tax the car for May 1st.If it doesn't update the MOT status, you have to follow the instructions on this page.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

If you get an extension and get a car mot'd within the 6 months, will it be valid for 12 months from the new mot test date or 12 months from when the last mot run out?

Logic says 12 months from the date the MOT is done unless within a month of the extended date where it will be 12 months from that extended date. There is a post elsewhere on here where they had the MOT done 2 days before the original date and as it had been extended the new expiry was 12 months from when the test was done and not the original date. The extended date is now the MOT expiry date so normal rules apply.
