Hello,
Looking for some advice. My partner and I had booked a holiday to Bali and Cambodia in August for  3 weeks time, and we are unsure if we are able to get any refunds.I keep looking at the policies and can't seem to see a definitive answer.
Emirates - Outbound flight from UK to Bali. Their policy states:

REFUNDS AND REBOOKING POLICY FOR CUSTOMERS PROHIBITEDFROM TRAVEL DUE TO TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS:

  • Ticketed to travel until 31stMay
  • Rebook permitted until 30thJune
  • Reroute permitted until 30thJun to selected Emirates destinations only. Applicable fare difference if any would apply.
  • Travel Vouchers for ticketed value.
  • Refund of unutilised tickets
So am I correct in assuming that they will give us a full refund?!

Air Asia - Bali to Cambodia
Their categories are:
  1. Flight to / from Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR & Macau SAR
  2. Covid-19 Voluntary Cancellation
  3. Nationals restricted to travel
  4. Japan Domestic Voluntary Cancellation
  5. India AirAsia Domestic Flights (I5)
  6. AirAsia Cancelled my Flight

We would fall under number 3 (number 2 is specific to Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, or thailand and India so is not applicable.) Their policy states:

You are eligible if you are affected by travel restrictions imposed by various governments (especially Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia) based on nationalities, cities of origin, travel history to a Restricted Country
in the last 14 days or the purpose of travel due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Also applicable if you have visited china or remained in China since the past 14 days.
The only options we have are to move the flighs or credit account to use for a future flight with Air Asia. We were going to Bali for a wedding, which has now been cancelled, unknown when or where it will be booked again. I am unwiling to move the flight or have the account credited as I do not believe we will use it in the near future. I would like the credit card refunded. Air asia have no phone numbers, emails etc, just a live chat which I have not been able to get on since Sunday as the queue is full to capacity. I have phoned my travel isnurance, who have advised to contact the airline. I explained the difficulty I had been having and asked how long do I have to keep trying for, their response was to just keep trying.
Where does this leave us? Can an airline only offer to move or offer credit?

Vietnam Airlines - Cambodia to LHR
Their policy seems very clear that we will get a ticket refund free of charge.

BA - LHR to Newcastle
Their policy is:
You can cancel your booking and receive a voucher for the same value. Your voucher can be used as part payment towards a future booking to any destination. It must be redeemed for travel on flights taken within 12 months of your original date of departure.

I do not want to get a voucher, as again unsure if it will be used and the wedding may be put back for over a year.
The only reason I am in LHR is because I was on holiday. Can I turn down a voucher and press for a refund? Would the travel insurance cover this even though BA have offered a solution?

We have the premier travel insurance with flexicover, which will cover us up to £2000 for Cancellation and curtailment.

Many thanks if you have read this far, any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am tearing my hair out.

Have you tried looking in the huge dedicated section on this site? If you read the post in big red letters above  it might help you

Edit to say it's been moved thankfully
  • I have  had a look, but I cannot see anything specific to my concerns. Apologies if there is, I just can't seem to see the woods for the trees at the moment.  :'(
