Easyjet flight cancellation

Options
Because of the Coronavirus, Easyjet has cancelled my outgoing flight to Gran Canaria (This is stated on their website, but i'm still awaiting notification). I will get the money back for that flight but where do I stand with the return flight which at the moment is still scheduled and is after the current lock down period?

You should get that fare refunded as well.

I have the same issue - flight now cancelled - the EasyJet website directs you to options to change the booking but there is no option for a refund - will this be issued automatically?
EJ are normally very good - and I appreciate they are overwhelmed (virtually impossible to get through on the phone) - but it seems to me they are doing everything possible to make it difficult (nigh on impossible) to apply for a refund.

Does anyone know if there's a time limit to claim after notice of cancellation? I realise it might take some considerable time to contact Easyjet. I don't mind waiting a while but wouldn't want to miss a deadline. I've not seen any mention of time limits.
  • easyJet have made it just about impossible to request a refund. There is no facility online, and they're not responding to phone calls and social media messages. They're asking the government to be allowed to offer vouchers instead, and have gone ahead with this anyway:

This is EU law, not UK law

easyJet are a nightmare!  Flights cancelled (by them) and no way to contact them as telephone just gives a message and then disconnects. Website options are:
    - offering to rebook free (but not far enough in advance for when we would now be able to travel)
    - vouchers (but only valid for six months so even worse!)
    - contact customer care for refund (not a chance of getting through to anyone and online chat not active)
    - EC261 compensation claims rejected within 60 seconds!!
What are my rights?  What can I do?  Has anyone found a way to actually get through?
    Total booking is over £500, but it's for 7 x £79 return flights - will S.75 apply?

Send them a letter before action giving them 14 days to refund you, if they fail sue them.

I had my flights cancelled and there was an option for a refund which i did and received an email saying i would get it within 7 days ..That was 13 days ago
They have since removed the refund option and are currently only allowing vouchers to book later

This is from Simon Calder on Twitter but as everyone is discovering getting through to them is impossible

If BA or easyJet cancel your flight you are due a full refund within a week But both airlines have removed the website refund option, to try to get passengers to accept a voucher instead To get actual money back you must phone the airline within a year from the date of the flight
    Have a nice day :)

He is right,  7days might be a stretch so send them a letter before action give them say 21 days and if they don't refund sue them. Shows them you are being fair.

I've given up trying to contact them and used the excellent Which? template 'Letter before action'
    which.co.uk/consumer-rights/advice/how-to-use-the-small-claims-court
I added a paragraph reserving the right to add reasonable legal costs if I incur them, and £25 an hour for my time!
It gives them 28 days to respond.
