Based on the BBC News report (which I've seen after my previous post) then it's the prediction from a mathematical model.

The 250,000 figure (not 260,000) is for the UK only and what has been forecast if the government stuck with their actions from last week. It is based on modelling carried out by the Imperial College of London, and as a result of this modelling, the government have moved to a suppression policy, where they hope only 20,000 will die.

Search for Imperial College COVID-19 if you want to know more.

And if those are worldwide fatalities then it's actually small beer (pun intended) compared to previous pandemics (SARS, Swine Flu, Spanish Flu, etc.) where the fatalities were in the several millions.
~260,000 deaths will be UK deaths.

Is this a fact or speculation!
That's a widely reported guesstimate.  Apparently the new guesstimate is lower, perhaps 20,000 deaths.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51917562:

The modelling by Imperial College London has been heavily informed by the experience in Italy and is influencing decisions at the heart of government.

Its calculations predicted 260,000 deaths in the UK.

Instead the plan is to drive down the number of cases to very low levels, which the models predict will limit deaths from coronavirus to the thousands or tens of thousands.

    https://metro.co.uk/2020/03/17/coronavirus-uk-death-toll-20000-social-distancing-measures-12411836/

The British Government’s chief scientific adviser says 20,000 people dying from coronavirus would be a ‘good outcome’ in such terrible circumstances. Sir Patrick Vallance told MPs this ‘best case scenario’ was based on drastic social distancing measures introduced in the UK this week. He said there are likely to be 55,000 cases in the country currently based on scientific estimates. Answering questions from the Government’s health committee today Sir Patrick said reducing the number of fatalities in the country to 20,000 would still be ‘an enormous amount of deaths and it is an enormous amount of pressure on the health service’.

We probably won't know how things will pan out until next year.  My guess is that total deaths attributed to 'coronavirus' in the UK will be at the lower end of the range.

Going back to my original point - toilet paper
Has anyone else noticed that 90% of the suppliers of toilet roll on Amazon are from China ?
And some appears to be non-flushable blue roll !
