First April shop yesterday, came in at $214. Poor hubby had to face the craziness on his own as I still have a sore throat so stuck at home (as in, not even shopping). He looked a bit battle-scarred when he got back!March 2020 grocery challenge $921.76/$500AU

Haha, Anzac_Biscuit - I know what you mean. I am not able to go out so my DH did the shopping yesterday - on the upside he had a chat with a woman in the butcher's queue who told him she was grateful to be out as her three children had been squabbling so the butcher's queue was preferable enabling her to talk to nice pleasant people - he had not long before texted me about the size of the queue by by the time I texted back he was happily chatting. This is good as he does not really do chatting and I think he saw some of the benefits. He was also grateful that he went to Morries first as by the time he got outside with the shopping the queue snaked across the car park and was likely to be at least an hour long. Little things like the Morries staff cleaning the trolley for the shoppers has made such a difference (and their huge donation to local foodbanks). He also had a bit of banking and my prescription to collect, and was met at the door for both. I took the precaution of filling in a paying-in envelope for the bank so the lady on the door thanked him for being prepared, also making him happier about everything.
Only a couple of little mis-haps - apparently corn was read as Colm' and he casually wondered why I wanted mustard while in the frozen aisle (! - where is eek when you need him!) (thanks Spotty/Stripey! ) and my ready-made tomato sauce came home as 4 tins of tomatoes (I had plenty) - I wanted them for DS as he is as poor as a church mouse and will be coming over to collect a food parcel at some point. Oh yes, and one chicken instead of 3 for £10. All minor in the overall scheme of things. I feel so grateful he is able to help.Save £12k in 2024 - #2 target is £5000 only £798.34 so far

My April started March 25th on hubby pay day. Suffolk_lass,that is not bad for man's shop!!
My OH would also not come home with 3 for £10 offer... He even once bought 2 items with 3 for £10 sticker and then third item not on the offer!!! I think it was pack of chicken, pack pork and Tesco Finest sausages, even though pack of sausages was also on the offer!!!
He was completely oblivious...
These sausages looked nice.... 😰🙃12 -
Just realised I didn't update my total yesterday, which went somewhat sideways from my original plan. My van started shrieking a warning from the coolant alarm, so I rang the garage & luckily he's still working & was able to fit me in late morning. So I ran to the much-depleted market & spent £21 on cheese, fruit & veg, then took the van down to the garage. Whilst he had her up on the ramp (oooer missus, that sounds a bit dodgy) I popped into the nearby branch of L!dls with my shopping trolley & replenished the odd non-perishable things that were running a bit low, like washing stuff etc., plus some fish & some meat, spending another £43. So £64 added, taking me to just under £100, but I shouldn't really need to visit any supermarket again this month. (Except maybe for cider! But that comes under a different budget...)
But the best news was that it wasn't a problem with the coolant levels in the van, but with the actual alarm; just a loose screw. So he topped up my oil (which was low) and just charged me for a spot of that and a half-hour's labour , so the transport budget has hardly been dented. Apr £62.46/of £100 Month (Annual 27 Dec 19 - 26 Dec 20) £273.81£1,325 cat food £
Spent out of £100: Jan £77.77 Feb £99.59 Mar £96.45 Apr
Cat Food Jan £71.33, Feb £64.15, Mar £66.36 £3.75
Wow! i don't post on here for a few days and look what happens! £62.46 spent! Yikes! An analysis shows a couple of things have caused this - having to pay more for products needed because the cheaper version has been sold out everywhere for weeks. Buying things for family which they've asked me to get for them and then haven't reimbursed - they have other worries going on and i really should be able to treat them to a £5 bit of shopping here and there - but boy does it add up! Fortunately, they're now able to sort themselves out to go shopping so this should now stop. And also i've stopped drinking, to save money, but the £4.50 bottle of wine budget wasn't in the budget and soft drinks are - so a bit of an increase because of this.
I am glad i've posted. It gives me a real focus for the rest of this month.
i had already decided to start working towards an £80 a month target but will maybe go for £90 next month and see how i go on.
In those spends was a huge joint of meat for £5.80 instead of £24 - i am hoping will do us meals for most of the week.Mortgage Balance11 -
Just caught up on posts as I tend to post my amount spent and then read back.
It appears from some this is much needed
And i quite miss this one too
Our household income is now at about 30% so next months reduced food spend is more necessary than a choice. I am still working albeit reduced hours and i was already really busy. I seem to spend my weekends being exhausted at the moment.

Market and Lidl shopping today, and they had cat litter in! Was not greedy, only got 2 bags of litter but she's a total house cat [19, going blind and won't move if a car comes!], also they had compost in, so got some of that to pot on the seeds. Total spent is £68.79.£71.93/ £180.0010

A spend of £10.62 to report today. Some very boring things to buy (drain unblocker and bleach??) but a few treats. Managed to source an easter egg for 75p, and was pleasantly surprised to see there were loads of cans on the shelves so I've restocked a bit on tinned tomatoes for pasta sauce.
This week I'll be attempting to make both bread rolls and kidney bean burgers, as well as having a go at making tortilla type bread to have quesadillas today.Grocery Challenge

Hi all! I actually forgot I had joined this challenge until last night when I went flipping through my browser tabs. D'oh! March was a whirlwind for me. I moved back into my old place in the middle of a lockdown and had to go shopping for things last minute. Because of moving back into my old place after several years and other renters, I've had to restock a few things so I think April is going to be more expensive than I first anticipated. Let's see though.
$1.79 spent on a bag of green split peas to make split pea and ham soup.
$7.44 spent at Target.com for an order that included cinnamon, food storage bags, snacks and other stuff. The entire order was about $52 but the rest was non-GC items like a new chopping board, etc.
$88.19 spent at Whole Foods today on berries, apples, oranges, onions, garlic, yoghurt, bulk/loose Italian sausage that was only $4/lb on sale, good salmon that was on sale for $7.99/lb, lotion, soap, canned tomatoes, chocolate, coconut oil, and some ginger.
TOTALS SO FAR:
$97.42/$300.00

Tomorrow I'll head out to a store called Trader Joe's to get some items they do well and inexpensively like boxed soups, cheeses, frozen veg, canned beans, canned fish, etc. After that, I should be able to not go out for another week for anything other than fresh veg. When I heard my total from the Whole Foods shop, I winced a bit but reminded myself that I didn't have a chance to stock before in February and March like others did because I was bouncing around sublets waiting for my place to open up again. So, I'm a few months behind others in stocking up, which explains the trips outside as well. I may try to do an Amazon or another online order to get a specialty flour so I can bake some treats. My freezer currently has an alright balance of chicken, beef (steak), fish, and pork in it but I may get some more chicken tomorrow because that's my usual protein.9
