261/2004 and Coronavirus

Options
I've had our airline cancel flights for early next week (ie within seven days) due to FCO advice.  They've offered a refund, but does anyone know if a compensation claim is valid too?  Or does Coronavirus count as "exceptional circumstances"?    Thanks in advance.

Yes, as far as I know it is and no compensation would be paid.

Stick in a claim anyway.  The airline will probably be bankrupt before they get chance to reply to you anyway.

Under Article 8 of EU261/2004 Your airline should re-route you with another Airline.

Justice13075, in case you hadn't noticed, the FCO advice is not to travel anywhere and in 99.9% of flights there is no longer any alternative. And there is also no claim for compensation, as made clear by the EU Commission on Wednesday this week
