ID Mobile - Not happy at all!

The first I heard of ID was on the MSE website, looking for an affordable contract to move my partner's PAYG number to.
So went to their web, and set it up. Then all the problems started.
The sim card turned out to be incompatible with her handset (not a touchscreen, she doesn't get on with them). So the only way to get hold of them was via the chat window on their website. Hours and hours spent on there.
Anyway, after 4 days of this we eventually got her number back from them (PAC code), cancelled the contract under the 14-day cooling off rule and cancelled the direct debit.
Then they started bombarding her with letters and emails, saying there was £1.22 charges due and she should reinstate the DD. As she'd had no service from them, we couldn't understand why this charge was being billed - their reply (via that damn chat window again) was "It's for the time the account was active". Odd, as how can it be active when the SIM didn't work.
Anyway, I just got fed up of all their c**p, phoned up, and paid by card so hopefully they'll go away.
The thing I'm really worried about, is when I read the card numbers out, the person at the other end in a busy call centre full of other people chatting away READ THEM BACK TO ME OUT LOUD - that's the 16 digit card number, the expiry date, and the CVV (3 digit number on the back) - HE REALLY SHOULDN'T HAVE DONE THAT!!!!
So now I'm having to go through the inconvenience of contacting my bank, cancelling my card and watching my account for anything dodgy for the next month.
I'll never go near ID again, and (my opinion) I don't think MSE should feature them on the site.

The sim card should have worked fine unless it was a 2g phone then it wouldn't work because they don't have 2G only 3/4G the same as Three and smarty networks.

also you should never cancel your DD because if they do try to take money from the account and its not there they could put a mark on you credit file for late payment and that would stay there for 7yrs it's a lot easier to get a refund then getting anything of your credit file but hopefully where you have paid the balance you will be ok.

When they where reading you card number back why didn't you stop them by saying excuse me but could you read that back a bit quieter i don't want it broadcasted all over your office thank you.

To be honest all networks have their bad sides especially there custom service's they seem to get worse every year.
If it was that bad you could always put a complaint into their chief executive. just Google ID Mobile chief executive and send an email to him/her.

  • Same problem. Signed up to ID mobile after recommendation from this site and as soon as I'm signed up, I'm locked out of my account with no way of checking usage but have already had a message saying I've reached my limit after a few days.

Obviously all call centres are shut due to coronavirus and there are no web chats available and every site tells you to seek help from the ID chat community which it has locked me out of. Did a bit of digging and this is nothing new, a ploy to keep you with them it seems. Other customers when they try to leave are threatened with having their credit rating spoilt.

I am within my 14 days to cancel but can't get hold of anyone. Bought phone through Carphone Warehouse but no luck there either. I want to cancel as I've decided not to keep my old number and start afresh. ID nightmare would NOT recommend.

Thanks in advance for any useful advice.

I had a similar problem, I applied for just a sim-only contract, nothing fancy etc and then the sim card come all damaged i rang up to get a new sim card sent out to me and they wanted me to pay for the new sim card so i done the same thing and cancelled under the 14 day cooling off period and to anyone looking around i would steer clear of this provider. It's worth paying the little bit more money for a contract instead of getting absolute awful service.

And just to balance things: signed up for their sim-only 2gb plan w/ unlimited calls & texts for £6.00/m through the Carphonewarehouse website. The multi sim came in the post and went inside my Nokia 8 Sirocco perfectly (nano sim). The service works as it should, no complaints!

I too have been with ID mobile for over 2 year paying £5 month for 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 1,5gb internet. Never had aproblem
  •  I had a problem with ID mobile after sending £20 to a charity via text, I made a bank transfer to my account to cover this unusual additional cost the same day, a fortnight later I was prevented from using the phone to send texts because I had reached my cap. The cap was already at the max of £25 and couldn't be increased on the website portal. No chat was available, no email address or customer service phone number that was answered by a human being to resolve the issue. I too had no problems for a couple of years, but as soon as there was an issue their totally inadequately resourced business model was incapable of engaging with their customer, who lest they forgot provides them with the income for their business to operate. Result they wasted 45 minutes of my life I will never get back, and they lost a customer to a competitor.

I as I said previously, been with them for a couple of years with no problem but have had the same problem as Rayand1 not being able to contact them.
I upgraded my contract in September from £5 per month to £8 per month. I was 1 day into my new month when I did the upgrade and when they produce the pro rata bill in October they arrived at a figure of £10.86. even if they had billed me the whole month on the more expensive tariff it would only have been £8. I have waited for my November bill to see if it was corrected but it has not. I would love to speak to them to find out how they arrived at the figure but there is no way. The live chat is a chat bot, answering simple questions with an automatic script. Anything unusual cant be answered.
